Rock : Least Favorite Musicians

Least Favorite Musicians

This was inspired by the "Rock and Roll Awards" thread. Who are your least favorite musicians? Here are some of mine. Please feel free to add categories.

Least Favorite Song: Too many to list

Least Favorite Band: U2

Least Favorite Solo Artist: Madonna

Least Favorite Band Name: Anal Cünt

Least Favorite Album Cover: Cinderella "Night Songs"

Least Favorite Singer: Morrissey

Least Favorite Guitarist: C.C. DeVille

Least Favorite Drummer: Peter Criss

Least Favorite Bass Player: Rudy Sarzo

Least Favorite Keyboard Player: Tie - Linda McCartney and Vince Welnick

Least Favorite Songwriter: Bryan Adams

If some of these people got together it would be a real super suck group.

I actually like the band Cinderella. But their first album cover turned off a lot of potential fans. They were playing blues based rock like Aerosmith and The Rolling Stones. But the cover of their debut album made them look like a total glam band.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Marilyn Manson, G. G. Allin

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

And the Lifetime Achievement Award goes to: Yoko Ono (assuming she is considered to be a "musician").

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

Hewwo.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

I don't dwell enough on my least favorites to compile a list.

That doesn't really make any sense to me.

Me too. I'd rather not focus on the negative.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Least favorite song: We Built This City

Least favorite band: Rush

Least favorite solo artist: Michael Jackson

Least favorite band name: Jonas Brothers

Least favorite album cover: Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In

Least favorite singer: Vince Neil

Least favorite guitarist: Kerry King

Least favorite drummer: Ringo Starr

Least favorite bass player: Nikki Sixx

Least favorite keyboard player: Can't think of any

Least favorite songwriter: Neil Peart

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Metallica love My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Least favorite song: We Built This City

That is a truly awful song. I can't Bernie Taupin was one of its co-writers.

Least favorite album cover: Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In

The first time I saw that album cover I thought Poison was an all girl band.

Least favorite singer: Vince Neil

Vince Neil is not a great singer, but David Lee Roth is much worse.

Least favorite drummer: Ringo Starr

Ringo is not a great drummer, but he keeps a steady beat. I am probably biased because I am a huge Beatles fan. I was just thinking that Phil Rudd, formerly of AC/DC, is a lousy drummer.

Least favorite bass player: Nikki Sixx

I read Mötley Crüe's book "The Dirt" and Nikki Sixx knows he isn't a very good bass player. At least he is honest. Michael Anthony from Van Halen is another lousy bass player. Maybe the band Van Halen should have been called Eddie & the three other guys.

Least favorite keyboard player: Can't think of any

Most of the musicians I listed came to mind quickly. I had to think a minute about keyboard players. Maybe it is because in rock music they are down in the mix and/or sidemen. When I was in college I dated a girl who like The Cure. Their keyboard player Lol Tolhurst was awful. I think the only reason he was in the band was that he was childhood friends with Cure leader Robert Smith.

Least favorite songwriter: Neil Peart

Is Neil Peart a songwriter or just a lyricist?

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

I was thinking of putting Phil Rudd as my least favorite drummer, but I never liked Ringo's drumming either, especially compared to Ginger Baker, John Bonham, and Keith Moon. Maybe I could've put Cliff Williams or maybe Tom Araya as my least favorite bassist. AC/DC and Slayer for that matter are the two most boring bands ever. They've both been playing the same album over and over.

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Metallica love My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

A lot of people consider AC/DC and Slayer boring. But some consider them consistent. Slayer's "Diabolus in Musica" album sounded very different from their other albums. But it sounded a lot like nu metal and it really stunk. A lot of people probably think Motörhead were boring, but most of their albums are good. "March ör Die" was their most commercial sounding album and it sounded really weak.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Slayer has basically been recycling Diablous In Musica for the last 16 years. That was the one where the riffs became groovy nonsense and Tom started abusing that one boring hardcore-style vocal pattern that he seems to be incapable of shaking off.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

God, I wish.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

I liked Slayer to a degree, but I never cared for Kerry King's personality. After Jeff Hanneman died, I just plain could not get into them. As for AC/DC, I sort of see them in a new light even though they were my favorite band in high school. I mean personally, and maybe it's just me, but I feel they were a one trick pony with Brian Johnson and the Back In Black album. Aside from Back In Black, none of the Brian Johnson albums were good from start to finish. Even For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) for that matter. Aside from the title track, that album wasn't that great. That is just my personal opinion.

Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Metallica are Bronies

Oh, no argument here. But still think everything before Reign in Blood was fantastic. After that, it's hit or miss for me (more misses than hits) Angel of Death is an outstanding track even if Reign in Blood is meh overall.

I mean, I feel that it's impossible to relate to Metallica because of Lars' personality, but I still find their early work solid.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

David Lee Roth sucks, sure but at least he didn't kill someone and pay his way out of it...and brag about it. If I saw Vince Neil on the side of the road on fire...you know the rest.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

I agree. Vince Neil is the definition of a talentless hack and Motley Crue is a joke band just like all those dog crappy hair metal bands of the 1980's. We can thank Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, and all the thrash metal bands in general for putting those lame hair bands in their place. GN'R and Nirvana also helped overthrow those crappy hair bands.

Metallica, Iron Maiden and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Oh yeah, Vince Neil is a füçkin putz. Ditto to least favorite.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Least Favorite Band Name: Anal Cünt

The fact that you're offended is exactly what they set out to achieve with that name. There's only two ways of viewing A.C. - laugh at the blatant stupidity, or wallow in butthurt.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

I have heard many horrible band names, but most were local acts. It was a lot harder to think of national acts with offensive names. My bro had a some A.C. albums and/or E.P.s. They were pretty funny but the jokes got old very quickly. In 2011 A.C. front man and founder Seth Putnam died of a suspected heart attack, ending the band.

I grew up in the New York area. In the late 80s/early '90s there was a local act called Barney Rubble and the Cünt Stubble. I think they had to change their name to The Stubbles because they were sued by Hanna-Barbera. Please click on

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Bruce Springsteen in as many categories as you can...

Boo!

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Agree with the posters who state that they don't dwell on the negative; with me, it's probably more that I can barely prioritize my most favorites, let alone my least favorites.

However, I will subvert the model here to spotlight the most overrated/overhyped/overblown/oversold/overexposed:

Song:
1950s: "La Bamba," Ritchie Valens
1960s: "Hey Jude" (Beatles)
1970s: (tie) "Stairway to Heaven" (Led Zeppelin), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen)
1980s: "We Didn't Start the Fire," Billy Joel
1990s: "Champagne Supernova," Oasis
2000s: "Seven Nation Army," the White Stripes

Band: The Beatles

Solo Artist: Billy Joel

Band Name: The Doors

Album Cover: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles

Singer: Janis Joplin

Guitarist: Jimmy Page

Drummer: John Bonham

Bass Player: Flea

Keyboard Player: Rick Wakeman

Songwriter: Jeff Lynne

It's not that I don't like any of these because in fact I have all these songs along with material from most of these artists. It's just that they've all been overrated/overhyped/overblown/oversold/overexposed.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

That is a very interesting post. You should spin it off as a thread.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Nah, I'll just offer my off-kilter contribution here. Besides, we need another "Overrated" thread on IMDb like we need another hole in the head.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Least Favorite Songwriter: Bryan Adams

Keep in mind that many times he had help co-writing songs, like with Jim Vallance and Mutt Lange.

If you're talking just lyrics, he may not have The Beatles or Pink Floyd level lyrics, but is it such a sin to have decent lyrics for romantic songs, and harmless fun pop rock songs, just because you may not thrive on them?

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

Someone sent me a private email asking why I disliked U2. Here is why.

I wasn't impressed when I saw U2 in concert. They played the same songs in the same order for almost every date of their Joshua Tree tour. The Edge played the same four chords. He had a horrible guitar sound with too much distortion. Bono pulled a fan out of the crowd to play guitar for one song. I thought the fan blew away The Edge.

I don't like stadium concerts. But if a band plays a stadium then video screens are a necessary evil. Back then U2 played stadiums without video screens. That was before their Zoo TV tour, when their concerts became elaborately staged multimedia events. I think that was when U2 admitted that watching TV was more interesting than watching them perform live. Bono is a pompous jerk. U2 are an overrated band who try to use interesting production of their albums to stay relevant.

When I was a teenager I heard from many kids that U2 were a great live band. I have no idea why. I think it was because for many it was their first concert. And for some reason the media seemed to love U2.

Re: Least Favorite Musicians

There is no need to apologize for resurrecting an old thread. As long as the opinions and/or information is fresh it is fine with me.

Gene Simmons once said he was an entertainer, not a musician.

I just thought of a really bad bass player. Krist Novoselic formerly of Nirvana is a very limited bass player. I think the only reason he was with Nirvana was his close friendship with Kurt Cobain.
