Classic Film : pre-code Hollywood looks like fun!!!

pre-code Hollywood looks like fun!!!

I just came across this yesterday. These movies look like fun. It was pre 1934, I believe, and before the Hays moral code began to censor movies. Now, I have a whole brand new era of films to check out. Because I haven't seen any of them.

Well, have fun, old timer!

Re: pre-code Hollywood looks like fun!!!

They show a variety of Pre-Code movies from time to time on TCM, but even if you don't have TCM, you can find most of those titles here (Filmboards) on their individual movie page and watch them for free. I reckon most of them had their copyright protection expire years ago.

Call Her Savage (1932) is one that he showcased that I've never seen… tbh, never heard of it, but now it's on my watch list. Looks pretty wild.

Re: pre-code Hollywood looks like fun!!!

One of those scenes I think is from The Gambling Lady with Stanwyck. She is there to apply for a job, in fact quite desperate. In the middle of the day. The guy's boss is out for lunch. She wants the job and she will do anything to get it. Of course they don't show it but they to into his boss's office and have sex. She does that a lot in the film. All implied, of course.

I have two of those films in my collection - Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and I an a Fugitive from a Chain Gang

I don't know if that was a wild shot or what, but I looked at a few of the reviews and the plot and the movie sounds right up my alley! I will definitely be watching it. Thank you!

It’s not a bad film. I think you’ll like it. I had to buy it at the time, but you can watch it for free here.

Director William Wellman married the cute girl that starred in the film.

Pre-code scene from this film, of the type that wouldn’t fly in later films.

Re: pre-code Hollywood looks like fun!!!

The dialogue and the interactions between the men and the women seems more real that a lot of older movies I've seen after, which can seem stilted by comparison.

Holy shit, that Lady in the movie jumped out of the window. That's crazy.
