It's a very sweet film and not thought about it in years. I think you'll enjoy it.

I liked "Gregory's Girl", too. Like you said, it's a very sweet film. That's the perfect word for it. Gosh, I haven't seen the movie since high school, I think.

Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?
100 'Testament' (1983)
That movie has one of the most eerie feelings of the nukes exploding and the build of suspense before it happens.
That scene just fills me with such dread and is really frighteningly real.

Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?
I have seen 74 of them.
Like any list, best is all subjective and how very "woke" and "progressive" of Rolling Stone to make Spike Lee's self-indulgent and boring 'Do the Right Thing' number one…
Norman! What did you put in my tea?

How MANY of the other 73 that you've seen would YOU say (type, actually) are BETTER than Do the Right Thing? I HAVEN'T seen it, BUT I'd venture to guess ALL 41 of those that I HAVE seen are BETTER than DtRT!

Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?…
They are from many different genres and some are favorites of mine. With genres, I don't think its logical to compare a fun and amusing epic comedy like The Blues Brothers, to something like the original and daring Blue Velvet.
I love Amadeus and for the films on that list, I would rate it as best over all the others and it would likely rate #2 for 80's films for me, yet by that same token, it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.
I can only go by what I see as better or more enjoyable than Do The Right Thing, but its the racial tension theme of DtRT that is supposed to elevate it to prosperity and this is insincere to me. Besides, I much prefer Lee's Jungle Fever - '91.

Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?
I've seen 38 of them but a lot of these films are not very good. Movies like ET, Repo Man, Raging Bull and many others are not worth watching a second time. Aliens is 51? Insanity. It's at least a top ten film for the decade.
Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?
I've seen 69 of them.

Re: Rolling Stone's best 80s movies - Which have you seen?
I've seen 40 of the movies off this list.
My favorites…
1. Something Wild - ****
2. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown - ***1/2
3. After Hours - ***1/4
4. Blade Runner- ***1/4
5. The King of Comedy - ***1/4
6. Fast Times at Ridgemont High - ***
7. The Road Warrior - ***
8. The Shining - ***
9. Gregory's Girl - ***
10. Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure - ***
The humor in "Airplane" is not my cup of tea. And I think "Full Metal Jacket" is over-rated, though I don't mind it. I HATED "Blood Simple". "Reds" looks so boring to me. I do want to see "Fitzcarraldo", "Fanny and Alexander" and "Wings of Desire". I like "Blow Out" okay, but I cannot understand why the source picked this over DePalma's two other (superior) 80s thrillers, "Dressed to Kill" and my favorite "Body Double". Another 80s goodie with Melanie Griffith is "Working Girl". I love that movie! "Heathers", "Blue Velvet", "Robocop" and "The Terminator" were all pretty good. "Raging Bull" is my least favorite film on this list. I hate that movie. I would rather watch "Blood Simple" again. I need to see "The Blues Brothers" because I lived in Chicago for 15 years and the movie stands a chance of being funny to me. I liked "Aliens", but I like "Alien" much, much more. And as much as I like "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", I like "Last American Virgin" better. "Porky's" also was very likable and very funny. The person who made this list seems like a pretentious snob to me. At least my favorite film of the 1980s, "Something Wild", made his top 20.
My twenty five favorite 80s movies NOT on this list. Almost half of them are from the first year of the decade.
1. Manhunter - ***3/4
2. Reform School Girls - ***1/2
3. Spetters - ***1/2
4. Motel Hell - ***1/2
5. Terms of Endearment - ***1/2
6. Times Square - ***1/2
7. Polyester - ***1/2
8. Last American Virgin - ***1/2
9. Body Double - ***1/2
10. Ordinary People - ***1/2
11. The Fog - ***1/2
12. Working Girl - ***1/2
13. Dressed to Kill - ***1/4
14. Tootsie - ***1/4
15. Terror Train - ***1/4
16. Friday, the 13th - ***
17. Taxi Zum Klo - ***
18. Evil Under the Sun - ***
19. A Coal Miner's Daughter - ***
20. The Fan - ***
21. The Mirror Crack'd - ***
22. Nine to Five - ***
23. Mommie Dearest - ***
24. She Devil - ***
25. Poltergeist - ***
Edit. I totally forgot about Sid and Nancy, which I only saw for the first time recently. I liked it a lot. I'd probably put it between Working Girl and Dressed to Kill.
Damnit, one last edit before I go ahead and make this be my top 40 movies from the 80s. Because I love Radio Days and would probably give it ***1/2 for sure.

Edit. Of the 41 movies you have seen, I have seen 23 of those!
