Will Patton : What film first made you take notice?

What film first made you take notice?

What film first made you take notice of Will? For me, it was "The Rapture," where he plays a sheriff's deputy who helps Mimi Rogers, a Christian in crisis.

Will is a commanding actor who can plays sensitive and vile characters equally well. He invariably steals any scene he's in, and he's generally the highlight of any movie he makes. Give this man a lead role!

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I love Will's role in "No Way Out"! It was what inspired me to create this thread and reminded me of what a great actor he is. Without him, it would have been just another Kevin Costner thriller. Thanks to Will, that film takes a lot of surprising turns, and he plays the character to the hilt.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I think he is an amazing actor; I can't think of one of his roles that didn't jump off the screen for me. "The Rapture" is a favorite, as well as "Inventing the Abbots". He played such a jerk in most of that movie, only to expose a vulnerability at the end that completely redefined the character. His ability to play Chick Chappele just as convincingly as he played Scott Pritchard is a talent that has yet to be acquired by some of our "A-List" actors.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Thanks for mentioning "Inventing the Abbotts." I bought that film recently to see Jennifer Connelly, and I didn't even realize Will Patton was in it. He's a great actor who plays baddies and goodies equally well. I'll watch this film soon.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

desperately seeking susan with madonna back in 1984. he is pursuing her for her earrings (ancient artifacts) and tries to rip them off susan/rosanna arquette's ears when he mixes the two women up. see this movie if you haven't. madonna is actually good in this cause she doesn't try to act. and he's fantastic in it. scary as hell.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Wow, that's him? I saw "Desperately Seeking Susan" in the theater when it was released, and I think Madonna did a good job -- unlike every film I've seen her in since. Susan Seidelman is a terrific director, and I expected great things from her, but she just sort of vanished. I'll have to watch that film again to see Will.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

No Way Out. Hard to believe it was the same guy who plays so many macho roles nowadays. Great villian.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I love him in "No Way Out." He totally steals that film from Costner.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Not only does he steal "No Way Out" from Costner, he steals it from Gene Hackman, which is no mean feat. He should at least have had an Oscar nomination, if not an Oscar, for this movie for Best Supporting Actor.

Just saw him on C.S.I. Thursday night, which brought me to this board. I enjoyed seeing him in his guest spots on Numb3rs, too.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Yes, Will does indeed steal "No Way Out" from Gene Hackman, one of the finest actors alive. That character is extremely vivid and well played; I wish the rest of the film were as good.

I'll have to check out Will on "C.S.I" and "Numb3rs." I find a lot of those current detective shows rather hard to watch because I'm not a regular viewer and they have such intricate plots and casts, but it's worth tuning in for Will.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Yes, he did steal every scene he was in in "No Way Out" and I think it can be fairly said he did the same with every scene he was in with Richard Gere and/or Laura Linney in "Mothman Prophecies", another good vehicle for him.

Thanks to this thread, I've DVR'ed last night's CSI, so I'm going to watch that now.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Criminally underrated actor. Astonishing performance in 'No Way Out'.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

It's amazing how he steals the spotlight in "No Way Out," just as he does in so many films. If movie fans cared more about talent than celebrity, Will would have been a major star long ago.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Totally correct.

The power of his performance in NWO was incredible, crackled from the screen, especially his character's final scene.

He'd pop up here and there, in films since, and I often wondered: 'why isn't this guy a huge star?'

There's still time for a major breakthrough, I guess...

t film first made you take notice?

Yes, he still has time for a major breakthrough, and he's still an extremely talented and prolific actor, but it seems he's not getting nearly the roles he deserves these days after some fairly high-profile parts in the '80s and '90s. Oh well, I'll just have to follow him to indie oblivion.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I've seen him in a lot of films, but Inventing the Abbotts was the first one where his role really stood out to me.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

He's excellent in "Inventing the Abbotts." I only wish the rest of the film was as good. I didn't get around to that one until a year ago.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

First noticed Mr. Patton in Desparately Seeking Susan.
I really enjoyed his performance in Mothman Prophecies.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

Armageddon. The very definition of the solid supporting man.

Love him in Mothman.

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I guess Copycat or The Spitfire Grill. He plays such a good jerk!

Re: What film first made you take notice?

First time I saw him on a TV screen was in the movie: ''Gone in 60 seconds'' . The movie is OK and I like his performance

Re: What film first made you take notice?

I realize I'm showing my age, but I first saw him in the soap Search for Tomorrow. I've been a fan ever since.

I have to say that watching him as a semi-sentimental father in Falling Skies is kind of startling after so many roles as an utter bastard.
