Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

Almost reminds me of Mars Attacks. Maybe its a comedy?

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

I hope it is better than Mars Attacks.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

They wanted to be in the film.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

It's a satirical science fiction black comedy film. How is it bad? giveup.gif

Have you seen it, because it's not due to be released on Netflix until December 24. hmm.gif

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

A. Written and directed by guy who has won multiple awards for his work.

B. On a timely and important subject.

Nuff said.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

A timely and important subject?

Climate change.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

So you haven't seen it?

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

I've seen it twice.

The writers and director have been up front and open for years that the point of the film is to be a metaphor for the way our society is mishandling climate change.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

I don't really read articles prior to viewing movies. I can see the allegory…but honestly…I enjoyed it for what it was which is to say…it was a b- forgettable dark comedy.

Now I look at it as a try hard c+laugh.gif

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

it's a remake of DEEP IMPACT and ARMEGEDDAN (can't spell).

it's not about climate warming change global.

Yes it is. The writers of the film have been very explicit about this.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

Yeah, it wasn't too hard to see the subtext. Very well done.

So many stories, so little time.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

It's actually a really good movie, which will likely get some Oscar nominations.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

It was okay…not terrible at all…but not really deserving of any awards I wouldn't think no.gif

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

I would rank it in the top 10-12 of the year. I think it deserves consideration for a best picture nomination, definitely best screenplay nomination, song, editing, score, and maybe best actor or supporting actor.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

Meh…you could have a point. Not a great year for motion picture…do they still do 10 nominations for best picture? I believe they went back to the old format of four or five…but I haven't watched the academy awards in years.

Re: How do some bad movies manage to get so many stars attached to them?

This year, they went back to exactly 10 films nominated for best picture. My predictions:

Belfast
CODA
Cyrano
Don't Look Up
Dune
King Richard
Licorice Pizza
Nightmare Alley
The Power of the Dog
West Side Story

Other possible contenders: Tick Tick Boom, Tragedy of Macbeth, Being the Ricardos, The Lost Daughter, Drive My Car, Spencer, House of Gucci
