Jessica Lange : Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

She has one-upped both Meryl Streep & Glenn Close. Neither of them have the Triple Crown of Acting. And now Jessica is only one Grammy away from the EGOT. Meryl needs a Tony & a Grammy to achieve EGOT status. And Glenn needs an Oscar & a Grammy.

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Re: Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

Hey OP, speaking of "one-upping", take a look at this article.

Re: Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

Well that doesn't mean she's a better actress. Everyone knows Glenn Close should have been an Oscar winner by now and Meryl Streep has a too good a film career to leave it for the theatre.

Re: Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

I don't think it's about Lange being the better actress. These two woman ,Streep and Lange, have been orbiting each other for 40 years!
Streep was taken seriously from the beginning. Lange was dismissed and came back , rising to the level of Streep. When Lange failed on stage, she didn't give up. She had huge success on stage in London. Streep started on stage. Three nights ago Lange won a Tony Award! I believe many find it ironic that it's Jessica Lange who has taken the top prize on Broadway!

Well Jessica Lange did deserve her Tony award. That doesn't mean she has reached the level of Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep is in a league of her own. She has made record-breaking history at the Academy Awards. Watching her on screen is a transcendent experience. Jessica Lange doesn't hold any records or offer that transcendent experience. She can't transform into somebody else as effectively as Meryl Streep. I'm not implying in any way that she is not a good actress - she is a truly excellent one. She is just not in the same level with Meryl Streep.

Re: Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

I feel she does transform as well as Meryl Streep. And she does it without drawing attention to the transformation . Patsy Cline is a completely different woman than Frances Farmer. Julie in Tootsie is a completely different woman than Ann Talbot of The Music Box. Lange is a superb character actress. Her Mary Tyrone looks and acts completly different than her Blanche Dubois . Streep is a great actress, but I prefer Lange. She always gets to me on a more emotional level!

____________
Yes, Streep is in a league of her own, a league of an over-praised mimic actress, who can appear like a caricature or parody of the character she is playing—her later ones from the new millennium in particular—and doesn't appear to have the dark quality or innate in the moment 'realness' that Lange expresses in many of her performances. Streep is a very good actress, just not as stupendous as she gets made out to be and her amount Oscar nominations mean jack squat. It's just that she was given more opportunity. Her 82' Oscar win for Sophie's Choice' should have gone to Lange for Frances'.

Meryl Steep won a Tony for best featured actress (1976) for "27 Wagons Full of Cotton".

Re: Now that La Lange has won the Tony…

No, she was nominated for a Tony award for best featured actress, but did not win.
