Jim Henson : Too Bad He Didn't Get Medical Treatment For His Pneumonia

Too Bad He Didn't Get Medical Treatment For His Pneumonia

That would have saved his life and he would have been around for several more years to come. I was a mega-fan of the Muppets when he was alive, but all that changed after he died. He WAS Kermit the Frog!

Re: Too Bad He Didn't Get Medical Treatment For His Pneumonia

It is sad but not uncommon. My grandfather also died of pneumonia. I don't know if Henson was a smoker but my grandfather was and he had a chronic cough for YEARS. It seems like modern medicine and unified medical treatment is very, very recent just in the past couple of generations (for example, most babies were born at home instead of in a hospital when they AMA decided to make pregnancy "a condition." Until that time, only the extremely rich could afford to have their children under doctor's care). With that said, however, I think pneumonia is one of those illnesses that can sneak up on a person and cause great damage if not diagnosed and treated. I've had it and I didn't feel particularly "bad" at all. Fortunately, I collapsed at work and was rushed to a hospital where it was diagnosed. I doubt I would have sought medical treatment if that had not happened. In my grandfather's case, he collapsed while walking to his bedroom and that's how my grandmother found him, still alive but barely breathing on his own. He never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead the following day.

I grew up with Sesame Street and really liked the Henson Productions until a new team took over and started adding innuendo and inappropriate banter. Jim Henson and Mr. Rogers will always be remembered for wonderful memories for me.

How Henson died was too gradual, a lot of people wouldn't of noticed it. He had just a bad cold and sore throat for a while. One might say that he could've been saved had he gone to the hospital earlier in the day, but the infection that ruined his organs (the pneumonia wasn't just it, it was the bacterial part that infected all his organs) had been going on for a few days beforehand.

Such a tragedy
