Movies with no conflict?

Are there such movies?

"I have a Dick in the front and a dick in the back!"

Re: Movies with no conflict?

I don't know why none of my posts get replied to. Every other thread does, even the really juvenile stuff. Does my movie discussion bug you all? I thought so a few weeks ago and stopped posting here.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Yes, I find it very irritating. If you want to talk about movies you should probably post somewhere else.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

I simply couldn't think of any movies with no conflict. There always seems to be some, even it's minor.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

No. Movies are drama. Drama is conflict.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

I can't think of any with no conflict at all.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Lost in Translation?

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Plenty of conflict in that, although understated.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Only if you inflate the definition of "conflict" to the point where it barely retains its original meaning.

I mean, you can do that in order to maintain the metaphor, I just don't like going that route myself.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Conflict does not need to be rousing loud excitable in your face. It appears you are the one who has inflated its meaning. It means discord, disagreement.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

So in other words, there was almost no conflict in Lost in Translation, and the only conflict you can point to is by inventing a special version of it which makes just about anything count.

Got it.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

There was conflict in LIT

Re: Movies with no conflict?

what about the conflict Bill Murray character has with his life as a fading movie star?

Scarlett Johansson character's conflict with her neglecting boyfriend?

both Westerners' conflict with Japanese culture and the city jungle of Tokyo?

the underlying age gap/generational conflict between both main protagonists?

plenty of conflict if u ask me. did u really not see that?

Re: Movies with no conflict?

I don't see any of those as representing genuine conflict.

I think people love to expand the definition of the concept in their minds in order to make the metaphor apply broadly to everything, for reasons I'll never understand. Because the more things a concept applies to, the less meaning it has.

Which is fine I guess. It just isn't something I'm willing to do myself.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Actually something inert like the 1970 "Trash" would be almost lacking in conflict.

But then Holly walks into the room and all of that changes.

Love, love, LOVE HOLLY WOODLAWN!!!

Re: Movies with no conflict?

I'm an actress who was in the Mafia.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

That's a very interesting question. I would say probably not. I can't even think of a day that goes by without some sort of conflict.

Maybe something offbeat like Derek Jarman's "Blue" would qualify.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

Is Man versus Nature still conflictual? If not, there's a bunch.

Re: Movies with no conflict?

"Melvin and Howard" is pretty mellow.
