Hostages : Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I just consider that moment the final laugh this show gave me. Aside from the dog randomly showing up at the end, with no explanation, despite having not been seen since like the second episode.
Of course there is no way in hell she'd be able to walk into a hospital with mysterious bone marrow like that without getting a million questions she can no way answer.
The bone marrow is useless. All that for nothing.

C'mon the dog showing up was way more realistic than the "I got a back of bone marrow take me to the OR."
We know Kramer took the dog somewhere to, at first keep the son docile and then likely to protect it from being shot by one of the others. He probably let it go before taking off to find Sandrine.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
My thoughts exactly. As a doctor Ellen should know better.
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Improbable but it does not seem that crazy. Sure, a million questions would be asked, but if the doctors test and the marrow is a perfect match, they would give her the transplant and save her life, wouldn't they? She could say, "An anonymous donor left this at my door." Duncan is confessing but I assume he won't say anything about doing this for his wife.
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
It's a miracle! Our worries are solved.
Yeah as if doctors will quickly react.
America is 50 states large plus connected to the outside world. No one else but the "evil" President has a bone marrow that matches?

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Hospitals can't just perform surgeries on patients with mysterious bone marrow and whatnot they walk in the door with.
Just imagine someone walking into a hospital with a kidney or a heart in a beer cooler and going, "Hey guys! I found one! Put it in me now please!"
There would be cops called instantly, the bone marrow would become police evidence and probably made worthless as I'm sure theres a small window of time from when its extracted to when it needs to be used, etc.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I think if she said that it was from an anonymous donor.the hospital would do it's due diligence to test the marrow to ensure that it's not contaminated and that it is a match.
They would likely perform the transplant, and then ask questions afterward. Mos likely, Ellen would say that she harvested it from the donor, and that the donor wished to remain anonymous, and that would satisfy the hospital.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Extremely improbable. Much like everything else in the show . I always felt that they could easily have just blackmailed the president to voluntarily give up his bone marrow or else we spill the beans about ur affair. All the innocent people that died just for Duncan's wife would still be alive. This show MIGHT have had a chance if they had gone more the Manchurian candidate route vs getting bone marrow for someone

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
You didn't find the wife or the doctor sympathetic?
Shrug. To speak to the OP: the reason people are outraged about the bone marrow scenario is because, as usual, the average IMDBer thinks they know WAY more about how things work than they really do.
Decent ending to a decent show. Certainly not deserving of the lambasting it's gotten; ESPECIALLY when you compare it to the critical darlings out there. Any of them. . .ANY of them. . .labor under the weight of at Least as many "flaws" as this show. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Wire. . .yes, I'm looking at You.
Whatever.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Well, sorry but a lot of viewers work in hospitals and know the showing up with marrow is not too plausible. The show had its moments but IMHO a lot of it was just too out there. And I agree with poster who said most people involved we're not sympathetic, it was hard to root for anyone . Yes the wife was sympathetic but that didn't make me think all the people that died deserved it so she could live. And the family to me just were not like able. The doc let herself get wrapped up in the plot, the kids were annoying, the daughter didn't even blink when her boyfriend was murdered. Just my opinion

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I actually agree. . .I just find it hilarious when folks pick and choose what outrages them about TV shows. The list of nits you can pick is endless with just about all of them; for me, that rarely makes or breaks a show. Clearly, "Hostages" takes tremendous liberties.
But to say it's wrong that she could be saved using that bone marrow is simply silly. Both on the face of it, and as a plot point complaint. There are MUCH bigger complaints, both on this show and on the critical darlings.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I'm not sure that posting on a message board means a person is "outraged" but I do agree that sometimes people to pick on little things. It's just my opinion but if the whole premise of the show: getting bone marrow and randomly walking into a hospital to get it transfused could never ever happen in real life. That a pretty big deal. I can totally suspend belief for shows I like but sometimes it just ruins the show If it gets to be too much. Just my opinion is all.
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I always felt that they could easily have just blackmailed the president to voluntarily give up his bone marrow or else we spill the beans about ur affair.
I think the problem with that was, as his wife pointed out, his cheating ways were well-known secret so he would have said, go ahead tell everyone.
But bigger than that was if they were to mention a need for his bone marrow, he'd be curious as to why which would lead to the knowledge that Nina was alive. Nina and her mother were supposed to have been killed before Nina was born. If he'd found out they were alive, he would have just sent another hit team.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I said that to my mom. No doctor/ hospital (at least no good one) would take some random bone marrow for a patient. It wouldn't be sanitary/ safe.
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
And Dr. Ellen was so nonchalant about the whole thing when talking to Nina.
"Yeah, just take this bag of fluid to your corner Jiffy Lube & Transplant. They'll fix you right up. If they ask any questions, just tell them you got it on sale from Bone Marrow Us.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Totally was thinking the same thing. It would have made more sense if Ellen had said she would book an OR for her the next day (surely the marrow can't live in a cooler for that long).

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
the wife will probably tell the doctors stop asking where i got this bone marrow from! Just do the bloody op!
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
I would love to see how people on these message boards would respond to a show that was written in a very realistic manner.
For Hostages, the White House would make their announcement of Ellen being selected to operate on the president. Shortly thereafter, Duncan and his team would approach the house, only to find it crawling with Secret Service Agents. Two days later, the president would be resting in a recovery room after a successful surgery.
That would make for a very entertaining 15 or so hours of television.

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
First of all the doctors aren't the government, so they can ask as many questions as they want and she doesn't have to answer them. And even if they did, she can just say that she finally found her biological father and he was willing to give her his bone marrow. You guys are all just being ignorant.
Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
Lol 'over analyser' the last time i checked it was fiction meant for our entertainment and not to be taken seriously. Some people need to take it easy sometimes and just relax

Re: Question About Bone Marrow Transfusion
While I do see the many points raised as detracting somewhat I do have a poser.
Why did Ninas birth mother ever feel the need to get on a register as a bone marrow donor. I thought she was HIDING???? as deceased. Looked rather liquidy. Thought it was of denser material than blood.
I did go with the story however.
Probably another thread but was the reason for the assassination not something to do with money and power grabbers in the surveillance industry with this ability to spy on everyone.
