Economics, Business, Money, Finance : Retailers drop Chaokoh brand coconut milk for using monkey slaves for labor

The Minneapolis-based retailer confirmed to USA TODAY on Monday that it decided to remove products from the Thai supplier People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) accused of using monkeys as forced labor to pick coconuts from trees.

These guys have it a little better.

This is apparently a common practice that has been around forever.

Thailand has been raising and training pigtailed macaques to pick coconuts for around 400 years. Coconut farmers in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India and other countries in the region sometimes rely on monkeys, too.
