Meryl Streep : why is she nominated every year?
Re: why is she nominated every year?
There is no explanation. I have no idea why her name appears for even the most flat performances. Poor Amy.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
This is so ridiculousshe is nominated every year because her performance is worth the nomination; usually, her performance is better than the actress who wins IMO.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
Streep didn't get nominated for the Jenkins movie, she got the nomination for her acceptance speech/performance in "I Hate Donald Trump". I predict she'll lose and we'll be spared another butt-hurt screed.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
That's the point.
She was "so empowering and brave" (not for me of course) that the Academy throw him a nod AGAIN. For a 20th time. I like her and give her credit but always have a feeling she just steals someones light in awards season :/ Like a white Beyonce.
My secret favourite was Emily Blunt in 'The girl in the train'. I know the movie wasn't that good but she was jaw-droppingly amazing. Gave me chills when rewatch some scenes.
I hope one day she get the recognition she deserves.

@jones7418
I think she will win everything going this year.
I hope she does.
I hope Calexit makes a lot of noise and exposes those narcissists. Maybe they will see how much the average person values them then.
I hope they are happy on their bandwagon.
Then ..it will be interesting to see who has the balls to say anything different.
That will be the performer to watch.
I've always got time to listen to the underdog.

Re: why is she nominated every year?
She was nominated for all the big awards (Golden Globe, SAG, BAFTA, Critic's Choice) BEFORE the speech. Your point is invalid.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
They need to add another slot to the category to make room for Streep's permanent nomination.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
The Oscar is no longer an award for good performances. It's just politics now.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
Shows how little your know. The Academy was far more political and controlled by a select handful during the Golden era of Hollywood than it is today, for all members get to vote.
Meryl is nominated every year because she lends creditably to Academy.
As the line "I beat Meryl" was introduced twenty years ago in the film The First Wives Club, and has been continuously renewed in a non-fictitious manner by the likes of Qwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Lawrence and Patricia Arquette, winning in a category when Meryl is nominated brings a greater stature to the award.
While ALL members vote on the winners, nominees are nominated by voting within their category, so her twenty nominations have come from her peers.

Re: why is she nominated every year?
Meryl is NOT nominated every year. Twenty nominations over a 40 year career, equates to a nomination every TWO years.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
Geez, how does her ego cope with the years she isn't overrated?
Re: why is she nominated every year?
I am not sure when it happened, but somewhere along the line, whenever she was mentioned as a possible nominee, it's like they had to nominate her. It's Meryl Streep for gods sake they would say. It's almost like it's more of a lifetime achievement award. How can you not nominate her and nominate someone else? It would be like saying actress X is better than Meryl, and we all know that isn't the case in their minds. Add in the politics, and she is a shoe in every time. She has such celebrity status it's hard for them to bypass her. But bc a lot of these nominations are gotten bc of who she is, when it comes to voting, they by pass her a lot, bc the others truly were better in their role. That's why she gets so many nominations but so few wins imo. It's a lot of politics. There were what, zero black actors or actresses nominated the last 2 years, and suddenly 7 I think it was this year? Someone raised a stink about it, and suddenly there are so many nominated? That's not just a coincidence. They want to show that Hollywood is not racist, but only are doing it bc everyine is watching them now. Aziz on SNL talked about Trump supporters being closet racists, yet the same Hollywood folks who condemn it are the ones practicing it. But now that it's out, they go over board to show how diverse they are. You can tell how racist someone is by what they do more when no one is paying attention than when they are watching you with a microscope. It's truly a double standard to me. Most of these awards are just political and have little to do with acting. Not all of it, but a vast majority. And when I say politics, I don't mean it's all about liberal and conservative. It's about power and influence behind the scenes, and certain people who tell everyone else what they should think. Come to think of it, that does sound like liberals lol.
Re: why is she nominated every year?
Because her performances are brilliant. And if you look for the performance that got Adams out, it was Ruth Negga's. No one expected that.
why is she nominated every year?
But really, it's like the Academy has an itch when it comes to nominating her.
This year, Amy Adams easily could have taken her place. Easily.
But whenever Meryl turns in a half-decent performance, she gets nominated.
Can anybody explain to me this infatuation of the Academy with Meryl Streep? Does she have dirt on every member, or what is it?
Laura:You left a dead prostitute buried alone in the desert?
Kyle:She's not alone.
