Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Republicans have been more likely to put large forces of troops on the ground while the Democrats tend towards bombing campaigns and embedding special forces with local fighters.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

I agree. Obama might had more countries under his belt. He just did it in a nicer way. Using drones means less American soldiers die, so it looks good on paper, but I'm thinking this is a cop-out, and a way for us to be in many more drone wars. The innocent recipients probably don't give a shit after they see their loved ones die.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

In the last 50 years, the GOP by a smidgen .

In the 50 years before that, the Dems.

WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam all happened under Democratic administrations. "Making the world safe for democracy" and all that jazz. Dems were the original neocons. Johnson presided over the Gulf of Tonkin "incident" (i.e., false flag) that escalated the conflict in Vietnam.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

I agree… I think even pre-W, the perception (and then identity) of Democrats being dovish came because the great Senator Eugene McCarthy actually challenged and dumped LBJ, one of the biggest tyrants of the 20th century. His entire platform was end the war, which had never happened before. With Wilson, there was a preemptive aversion against the war, but just like in WWII, once we were there, everyone was for it. Korea was probably the beginning of the end. In the political discussion today, I hear the GOP, even establishment talk about endless war (echoing Trump), and having Democrats on the defensive about Benghazi, etc., which is probably the best effect Trump had. His supporters will stick with him, rather than Mitch McConnell or anyone else with GOP seniority.

Now, Democrats say "He (their guy) never voted for war. It was an authorization to (excuses)"

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

All the more reason why we need a viable third party.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Unfortunately, both parties make sure they're never on the ballot, never getting 5%, never going anywhere.

I never understood those who don't use their power as leverage, say "the squad" and a few other newer ones. I know some want to be on good assignments with some power in their committees, but that's not their job.

It really bugs me when someone (and I did just read someone say this today) will say "If AOC forces Pelosi to put M4A on the floor, it is career suicide!" - right, like she can't do other things. She can write a book, and then make a ton more money and influence because she became a big name.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

every us cunt has had a war!

mckinley, abe and jfk ate a bullet for theirs!

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Republicans started both Iraq wars, the Afghanistan war and are always wanting to start new wars with Iran, and have been pushing for war with Venezuela. Democrats aren't pushing for any war.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Libya, Syria, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan?

ALL Obama's

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Obama maintained the Neo-Con wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was not an "anti-war" President. Clinton bombed Serbia and had bombed Iraq before Bush and the Neo-Cons even came to power. And speaking of Neo-Cons, that movement was begun by Democrats in the 1970's.

By contrast, Trump started no new wars.

Biden will have is in Syria by the end of 2021.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

Trump didn't start any wars and stood up to the military industrial complex in ways no other president has. Liberals will never give him credit. They voted for the guy who voted for the Iraq War instead.

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

WWII: FDR, Democrat
Korean War: Truman, Democrat
Vietnam War: LBJ, Democrat
Gulf War: Bush 1, Republican
Afghanistan, Iraq: Bush 2, Republican
Perpetuation of Middle East War resulting in emergence of ISIS: Obama, Democrat
Attempt to pull troops from Afghanistan: Trump, Republican

Looks like 4 for the Democrats and three for the Republicans
Enough blame to go around for both parties

And This, Too, Shall Pass Away

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

You should leave WW2 off a list of blame as unlike the others it was a just war imo

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

I considered that, but the question was who was hawkish, not whether the war was justifiable.

And This, Too, Shall Pass Away

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

I'd be interested if anyone thinks any of the non-WW2 conflicts were just.

And of course there's still some WW2 isolationists to this day in the US.

The cold war really ruined America's soul in some ways. ☹

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

it did (ruin our soul, and the brains of many)

Now anytime something disagrees, "You're a Russian!"

Re: Which Political Party Is More War-Prone?

The score = 14-14

I find that refreshing. I'd be horrified if it was one-sided.
