Has Jeopardy! become a local show?

Avatar Lives Matter …

We're now in the third week of season 37 and all of the contestants have been local, almost all from Los Angeles County. It would seem that the farthest away has been Riverside, less than fifty miles east. So, with not even Orange and San Diego counties it's not even a Southern California competition! It must have something to do with Covid or Jeopardy!'s travel budget has been severely curtailed. Does anyone know if contestants have been compensated in the past for travel expenses?

I haven't been watching, but that is interesting. They do tryouts before they make it to the show, so they probably had to scrap all of the qualified contestants due to the pandemic since it would be next to impossible to get them all in. They must only be able to pull from around the area now. Has the contestant quality suffered at all?

Two-time champs is about it. The most interesting IMO has been Sameer Gandhi. He's a dead ringer for the Mahatma!
