Best and Worst : Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Well….Forrest Gump is by no one's yardstick great.
The second half of Titantic is great, once they hit the iceberg, but you have to sit through the mediocre first half before that. So not really great, as a whole.
Braveheart is possibly one of the most overrated movies ever. Not great.
Trainspotting is great, period.

Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
I feel almost the same way about Titanic, except I pretty much hated the first half.
Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Oh, don't get me wrong. I hated the first half. But literally the second half of the film - well, that's a good disaster movie.
Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Then we are in complete agreement!
Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
The second half is certainly superior. I actually like the duality, half period piece Romance / half disaster movie.

Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
I remember going to see Titanic with my school when i was 12/13… all the girls wolf whistled and screamed whenever Leo came on screen and there was uproar from the lads at the Kate nude scene.. quite an experience.
Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Trainspotting is great, period.
Hence the reason why this post is about PERSONAL subjective opinion…
I don't like it, deal with it.

I love how you think this is about subjective taste and not about objective quality. If you think an objectively great movie is **** then you’re a clueless twat.

Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Okay, clearly your reading skills are quite ****ty, so let me quote the most important parts of my OP:
Meaning: You are clearly aware that the movie is good/very good/great, you just PERSONALLY don't like it.
Meaning: what you don't do precisely is calling them "****".
So, I am more than aware that Trainspotting is an excellent movie, I never denied that, I just don't like it personally.

You know, these movies you know are excellent and you would never dare to call them "garbage" or "worst movie ever", but they simply don't work for you?

And that makes you a ****ing idiot, dude. Sorry, but you not liking Trainspotting speaks to your level of intelligence. It’s quite low.

Re: Great movies objectively that you don't like?
Forrest Gump won best picture that year, over Shawshank and Pulp Fiction.
Gump had a great screenplay, a period piece, but it's problem was IMO it had no style. It was too bright, and felt like a Lifetime movie at times. I think it could've been great if another director say Frank Durabant (Shawshank) or Richard Linklater directed it.
I'm iffy on Tom Hanks performance, too. To me, Hanks best performances were Philadelphia, Castaway, Road to Perdition. Hanks is best when he's playing it dark & serious, or pure camp, like Big. Here, I can't tell if it's a strong performance or he's hamming it up. It's almost like a parody rather than a sincere performance. The movie's tone was all over place: is it a comedy, or drama, or what?
Joaquin Phoenix (now) would've done a good job here in a more serious interpretation of the character.
Never lose your desire.

I feel it’s a movie crafted to win an award for cinematography and not be a great movie by any other measure of its quality. I feel it dragged and was mostly boring.

First off, I would challenge the notion that these are all "great movies". They're good, but I wouldn't classify any of them as "great".

My list:
- Forrest Gump

- Trainspotting
I'm not a huge fan of Million Dollar Baby and Citizen Kane neither… But I still have more consideration for these two.
