John Travolta : Still A LIst?

Still A LIst?

He had a great string of films after Pulp Fiction but then after Lucky Numbers/Battlefield Earth he had flop after flop. He has has a mini career revival but he is still considered an A List actor now? Also does anyone know his salary for recent films?

Re: Still A LIst?

Far from A-list now.

Killing Season went straight to DVD.

Re: Still A LIst?

Man, IMDB is brutal. Does anyone on here like anyone haha. Anyway, I thought Killing Season was decent, and I'd like to see a return to form for Travolta. He can be great in the right role.

Re: Still A LIst?

Believe me, no one here is an A-list actor/actress.

Re: Still A LIst?

I like Travolta. I'm just saying, that once your movies start going DTV you're not A-list.

Looking at Travolta's upcoming movies, seems 1908 like he's starting to sign up to similar movies like Nicolas Cage and John Cusack do, especially the upcoming I Am Wrath, which actually had Cage attached to star a few years ago.

Most of them will go straight to VOD.

I'm not saying that they will be bad, some of my favorite movies of last year were DTV releases for example, but I'm not pretending that they're high profile movies either or that Travolta is still relevant or on a career high.

He is way past his prime (second prime you could say) and his career right now is probably close to where it used to be before Pulp Fiction.

He is still a quality actor, but it is getting a bit embarrassing seeing him prancing around acting all creepy old man touching Scarlett Johansson's face at the Oscars while wearing that ridiculous Lego man hair.

We know you're bald and gay, John, and we don't care, get over it already.

Re: Still A LIst?

Yea guess de niro's career's over too cause he costarred in that. It wasn't a great film, travolta still gets good roles in solid films tho plus he has a hit TV show coming out.

Re: Still A LIst?

I used to think he was a great actor, but lately his movies are not A list. He was awful in the Killing Season.

Re: Still A LIst?

I'm slowly but surely making my way through all of his '90s films and there's something like 20 of them. Now he does less than 1 a year, and his most recent, as another poster noted, didn't even hit theaters. The increasingly negative light many seem to cast on him recently certainly doesn't help either.

He's not a big a-list star like he once was.

Re: Still A LIst?

I'd say he's B-list now. But with that A-list air about him. He's probably trying to avoid letting go of that final A-list rung on the ladder, hence the limited films he does. But unless Tarantino wants to throw him a bone he's likely to be a fixed resident on the 'straight to dvd' shelf.

"I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness"

Re: Still A LIst?

B List at most he will be stuck at the direct to dvd bin for the rest of his career unless he works with someone awesome.

Lose the Game!!!!!!!

Re: Still A LIst?

He's only a-list if the a stand for anus.

Re: Still A LIst?

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE was a great movie

Re: Still A LIst?

Hit TV show coming out ? Oh, you mean the HBO documentary "Going Clear" ? I guess you are right - that should be a hit,

Re: Still A LIst?

If his star power is dipping in the movies he should get involved with the 24s and True Detectives type tv shows. He still easily has the name value to get a lead on those.

Re: Still A LIst?

He's a caricature now ! That hair and that pulled-back face !!! Yuck.

Re: Still A LIst?

John Travolta is a Hollywood legend. It doesn't matter if he's in a career slump or if he never makes another movie, his resume speaks for itself.

Re: Still A LIst?

Tell that to Bill Cosby !

Re: Still A LIst?

Travolta isn't being accused of rape by multiple women.

Re: Still A LIst?

He's been accused of unwanted sexual advances. And not just last night at the Oscars.

Re: Still A LIst?

Travolta is still A-list even if doesn't have a hit every movie.
John is one of the most talked about actors still because people are fascinated with him.
Even that photo of him at the gym went viral. Today he is one of the most talked about people from the Oscars and he wasn't even nominated. People still care about John.

Re: Still A LIst?

Travolta has never been an A-List actor, he was in a few good films, that's all. He was popular sure, and still is; but being popular doesn't mean being a good actor. His career is filled with awful films with his awful performances.

Re: Still A LIst?

A-list is a term that alludes to major movie stars, or the most bankable in the Hollywood film industry

Re: Still A LIst?

Yeah he has definitely struggled post 2000. To be fair there has been some decent stuff like Bobby Long and Hairspray but there have been too many bad movies.

He hasnt been the lead in a really good movie since probably Get Shorty and before that Pulp Fiction.

Since the turn of the millenium the good roles appear to have dried up, perhaps Battlefield Earth did too much damage to his credibility. Who knows.

As has already been pointed out unless Tarantino or someone of that ilk decides they want to work with him again he will probably have to go the VOD route unless he decides to make the effort and look for better roles on TV. De Niro should do the same.

Re: Still A LIst?

I'm not sure he's underrated, too often for me he's too hammy which in the right movie is fine I suppose but I often find him kind of annoying.

With a good script and/or director he is fine like in Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty or Bobby Long but too often he reverts to overacting in crappy comedies and action movies.

Re: Still A LIst?

That rug on his head doesn't help matters, or the extreme plastic surgery. He looks freakish.

Re: Still A LIst?

john travolta has had such an up and down career that i wouldnt be surprised if he did eventually come back with a huge hit and become A-LIST again, though he's getting old and if he doesnt do it soon it probably wont happen. you dont see many late 60s actors making comebacks. but really his career was always hit and miss. hes only had small periods here and there where he was really doing well.

he had a couple big hits in the 70s with grease and saturday night fever but then it was flop after flop for a decade until look who's talking in 1989. then again he had a lull until pulp fiction saved his career. after that he had probably his most successful period in the mid to late 90s with a string of big and mid-level hits. but then in the 2000s it was bomb after bomb yet again until wild hogs and hairspray in 2007 brought him back. and since then? pretty much nothing. so its literally been up and down up and down for 40 yrs.

he might have one or 2 hits left in him if he gets lucky with the right script and director. his longevity in the business is what's keeping his "a-list" aura about him. once youve been around a long time and you have name recognition it doesnt matter how l 2000 ong its been since your last hit, youre a star for life. especially internationally.

That period 2000/2001 did tremendous damage to his career, yes Battlefield Earth was a huge bomb. But Lucky Numbers and Swordfish also were commercial failures. Which stopped him being a 20 million a movie A lister.

Hairspray and Wildhogs were commercial hits, but there was sense it wasn't John Travolota star appeal that carried those films.

Re: Still A LIst?

He's on a list alright, but it's not the A-list.

Re: Still A LIst?

Travolta is A List for the rest of his career, even if he never has a hit film again. Being A List is more than getting great scripts and having blockbu 5b4 sters. Once you achieve a certain royalty in Hollywood, only total scandal will get you kicked out. Travolta still gets a standing ovation when he comes on stage, just for showing up, and that's A List. Lot of current A List talent will be hard pressed to have that respect when they're his age.

Not even on their age.

Without strife, your victory has no meaning.
Without strife, you do not advance.
Without strife, there is only stagnation.

Re: Still A LIst?

not true at all in fact it is the exact opposite, hollywood is the most cutthroat, anything for money and being famous place in the world they are ruthless and as soon as a star even a big star like john has enough bad misses at the box office or poorly reviewed movies that are big movies,

even he will be taken down from a list to b list or lower. which is what happened with him ever notice how he never gets in big movies anymore? and that every single movie he makes now is straight to redbox, video?

the same thing happened with nicolas cage who will never be a star in hollywood ever again after so many bad movies he made.

Re: Still A LIst?

no, not even back in 2014 was he a list. not even close b list maybe. now he is relegated to only straight to video small movies. but then again so is bruce willis so he can't be that upset about this.
