Kevin Spacey : Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

...if he just came out already? I personally don't think he owes it to us of course, but I don't think it would hinder his career at all.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

He's so well respected, it's hard to imagine anyone holding it against him at this point.

But.. even without any malice, it might affect/change the roles that he's offered. He may have decided he doesn't want his acting life to be at all affected by his personal life.

That's my best guess.

I think you are right. It's kind of refreshing to keep personal and work life separate. That doesn't happen often anymore.

Well for starters, we aren't sure he is gay. However as a gay man myself, I think that there is no doubt that he is indeed gay. He's a very private person and has every right to stay closeted if he so chooses. The reasons I think that he most likely bats for my team is that there are several dead giveaways. He did theater in highschool with Mare Winnigham, he drives a Mini Cooper, which coincidentally we have owned, and he's far too good looking for a man of his age to never have been married. The last part of that statement kind of seals the deal for me and my partner of 16 years now. We have known three men who, as they got older and more handsome, never married nor dated women. They all finally have come out and said that they are gay, each one in heir own way. It seems that the generation that Spacey, as well as many other closeted actors grew up in, are less likely to just come out and say, "Hey by the way, I'm gay" because of the backlash of doing so. Look what it did to Ruppert Evert's career. That was , in gay years, a long time ago. As far as Spacey's career goes, it might keep some closed minded people from watching his movies, shows, etc. Even if it did impact his career, look how much work he has done as far as movies, shows,"House of Cards" in particular, Directing, and voice overs for animation and video games. He has to be quite rich, unless he's wasted large amount of money like Nicholas Cage, which I seriously doubt. I'm sure he's socked away a fortune from just films and the theater stage alone. Also being single with no kids is a good way to keep your income from being dwindled down to nothing.

I love the guy personally. Not just because he's made some great movies, but he's done a lot of good things for charities. He was invited by former President Clinton in 2002 to travel to several countries in Africa to raise money and awareness for AIDS, economic relief, and debt. He purchased an Oscar for $175,000 at an auction house in L.A. that was given to actor George Stoll for his role in "Anchors Away" from 1945. He was kind enough to returned it to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He has said many times that he dosent care about his acting career in movies, that the theater is his true love. If he's gay, it's really his business and it shouldn't impact his career at all. By the way, my favorite Kevin Spacey movie is without a doubt "Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil". I just love the whole southern accent and charm of his role as Jim Williams.

The issue is, many of the ignorant, homophobic, simpleminded herd "would" feel betrayed and deceived. They are only respecting on their own terms, and that is one of the perceived image of "normalcy" heterosexuality represents and gets conditioned and promoted before us. They would get over it; but homosexuality is still such culture shock for many, it goes against what they see as nature.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

It wouldn't affect his career being openly gay, but what would affect his career....

...would be proof that he slept with underage boys at Bryan's Singer's underage sex parties.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

How would that be proof?

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

You never read my post properly. Read it fully, to understand.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Nope. He's never been a romantic lead anyway, and that's usually what audiences might have trouble with... Assuming he is gay (which I suspect but obviously cannot prove, and have no wish to) then he might just feel that he's kept things private for so long now, that what's the point in rocking the boat?

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

It would have likely led him to not get the role in American Beauty though if he had come out back then, when attitudes were different. That movie wouldn't have been the same without him, obviously. I do wish Jessica Biel had gotten Mena Suvari's role however.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Good point; American Beauty is possibly the one exception.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Are you kidding me? Being "gay" is a HUGE positive in Hollywood right now. That's a place of politics, that would put him even more into the spotlight.

Spacey has done well to avoid that throughout his career despite the accolades.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Kevin Spacey lives in the glass closet technically he is OUT in the closet. Spacey isn't hiding he is gay he introduced the world to his younger twink boyfriend Evan Lowenstein last night.

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

Why are you so obsessed 5b4 with Spacey being gay or not?

Re: Do you think his career would be affected negatively…

His career is fucking over due to the fact that he's been outed as a disgusting predatory chester the molester pedo creep.

Yes, this is really me.
