Nicole Kidman : Lion Part II

Lion Part II

Some videos from yesterday premiere in NYC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGUAetVk654

Bill Clinton was at the premiere too!!

Today she's supposed to be on Fallon's show.

Re: Sia's a releasing a song

So I was on Spotify and I just saw the ad for a new song from Sia that is going to be included in the movie. It is supposed to be released tomorrow.

Re: Los Angeles Times interview

Re: Lion Part II

I hope this all turns outwell for everyone, Nicole certainly is some beast of burden with redbull in her veins. I'm, exhausted just looking at the sheer number of events she's attended, and we've got Fallon coming up!

ET & On Jimmy Fallon

Re: ET & On Jimmy Fallon

Is she actually filming with Coppola? It seems like she was just that day in the set; Dunst and Faning are posting some pics from the set, nothing from Nicole. Her role is small, or she is backing to the set everyday in the morning; it is strange...

Re: ET & On Jimmy Fallon

She is. It keeps coming up how 'she's flying back to Louisiana next morning' etc & she talked about working with Sophia a bunch of times already.

Jimmy Fallon

I thought it went well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSsH6tYBgD8

Keith Urban came on too.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Seems a little more staged this time but if it'll get people to watch Lion then whatever she's got to do to make that happen.

If Lion ends up doing well, Weinstein should reward her with a good lead role in a new film, she's been out there tirelessly promoting the film almost single handedly.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Yes, it seemed more forced this time, but I knew it would kind of be this way.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

So tired of the Kidman-Fallon routine.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Way too manufactured. They shouldn't have rehearsed anything.

LastMOVIEwatched: Queen of the Desert ~ 5

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Expectations were high for this 16d0 one, but it appeared very scripted and forced. And what is going on with nicole's face here? I'm worried that she's filming The Beguiled with this face on. She should really lay off the botox

Re: Jimmy Fallon

That was so weird...

Re: Jimmy Fallon

My concern as well.

The Begulled performance will clearly suffer, what with all the Lion promotion and the super strong botox. Which is a shame because Dunst, Fanning and the costumes look great.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

I was very disappointed with how her face looked when the set photos first surfaced. Fanning and Dunst look really great. They actually have a photo together on Fanning's Instagram. Nicole should have laid off the botox. She looked very natural in the set photos of The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

I would seriously love her to take a ye b68 ar off.
She's my favorite actress but i just think all this jumping from one project to another , one promotional junket to another is overkill.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Don't you think it is a bit too soon to say "her performance will clearly suffer"???

I'm sure at the moment they are shooting the scenes in which Nicole's character is not involved. I have no doubts if Lion's promotion would in any way difficult her work at Beguilled, Nicole would not be doing these heavy promotion. She always has been a great professional, why it would be different this time?

What really concerns me is her face. I don't get and will never get why she keeps doing these procedures. She definetly stopped with botox in her forehead which is great, but she needs to stop asap with the cheek implants, this is in my point of view the biggest problem at the moment.
But I'm sure she will deliver another great performance in this movie. I remembered 5b4 she was at the top of botox and other things while doing The Paperboy, and she ended up giving a remarkable performance.

People need to calm down, it seems that even for her fans she can't do right at the moment.
People should blame/critic her only IF all these end up being a disaster, not before.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

It's 2016.
People can do whatever they want to do with their faces & bodies.

(Again, we are all entitled to our opinions & that's mine. I respect yours.)

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Well, peope can. Actors shouldn't.

If I wasn't a fan, I definitely wouldn't pay to see someone with an immobilised face like the one she displayed at Fallon try to act.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

you're totally right, this is becoming really annoying, nicole's fans keep spreading negativity like this.

Re: Jimmy Fallon

Oh dear! That's very awkward.
Thats possibly the worst Kidman's act I have ever seen.
And why she is acting like she is 12?!
The dress is stunning though.

Re: Sia's song

It's already out. And it's a very ugly and generic song to be honest.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NMPt7K9ZRs

Re: Sia's song

just heard it, I love SIA!!!

Found the song to be catchy and a vast improvement over anything that has been tied with a Weinstein product, remember that Gwen Stefani Song for Paddington( Oh dear!).

No there is alot I dont like about lion's promo but this song is pretty great!

“Am I any good in this movie?", alleged Nicole Kidman quote- Australia Premiere 2008

Re: Sia's song

no it's actually really nice!

Re: Sia's song

Very repetitive phrases, nothing special, but catchy ... I'm glad it's Sia she is huge. Hopefully the song is a hit.

state of the race for Supporting Actress

Moonlight sitting at 98% and is doing very well in limited release clearing a healthy US$ 5 million from only 176 theaters. I think this will guarantee Naomi Harris a spot, she is also campaigning.

Manchester by the Sea has a big weekend coming up, near unanimous raves at 99% , Michelle Williams is an Oscar favourite and she;s also campaigning for this I would consider her a lock for a spot.

ok so that leaves us with three spots,

now we haven't heard any updates with regards to Viola Davis but I don't think she;ll shift to lead due to how competitive that category is, so she's also locked in for a spot and possibly a win.

ok so that leaves two spots

now in my experience with the oscars, they always have a surprise random nomination for somebody nobody expected in the Best supporting actress field, therefore I think that leaves us with just one spot up for grabs and Nicole has to compete with alot of people.

Octavia Spencer ( hidden figures)
Taraji P. Henson (hidden figures)
Felicity Jones ( A monster calls)
Sigourney Weaver ( A monster calls)
Greta Gerwig ( 20th Century Woman)
Helen Mirren is also campaigning for something I dont know what but she has alot of respect in the industry so there is that.

Lion also has the added pressure of opening well box office wise (both for weinstein and Nicole's sakes) and its current review average must improve. so its still an uphill battle, Nicole is working the circuit pretty hard though.

“Am I any good in this movie?", alleged Nicole Kidman quote- Australia Premiere 2008

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Taraji P Henson will be campaigned in the lead.

Janelle Monae is the other supporting actress from ' Hidden Figures' being talked about as a possibility.

Helen Mirren is campaigning for "Eye in the Sky '

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Thanks Dedlock :)

Helen was a lead in eye in the sky! I mean her role was pretty big... The film was released back in January/march.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Nobody saw Hidden yet so lets wait to hear something from it. But yes the campaign is slowing down I think, before it was a sure, but now I dont know, it will depends on how the film will perform in boxoffice, maybe, if its a hit the chance rises, maybe?Williams, Davis and Harris are locked, I hope Hidden turns out to be a feel good movie, and only that, because if Janelle or Octavia came to the race it will be complicated for Kidman ;~~

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

No i don't think the campaign is slowing down. Its opening in the US this week and there has been quite a lot of press for it. It only has a limited opening so we can't expect too much box office initially. Im sure Harvey will open it wide if it performs well.

My own feeling is four of the supporting actresses are locked including Nicole. But i admit she is more wobbly than the first three that everyone agrees on. Dedlock is right in saying that there is a usually/ often a surprise 5th nominee. I have a feeling maybe someone like Molly Shannon or Margo Martingale could sneak in as they both had terrific reviews for their films.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

They're not going to expand it afte 5b4 r the limited release? As I said before an oscar nomination is the perfect comeback for her after a lot of critical flops.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

despite all the acclaim and the hard work she's doing you keep spreading negativity, first of all 77% is not average, in the beginning you kept saying that lion will definitely be a flat drama and it doesn't look promising, as a huge fan of nicole you should be happy because she's finally back with a good movie since rabbit hole, but no, first you said it won't be a good movie but it looks like a great one according to audience who saw the movie and a lot of critics, second you said nicole won't get an oscar nomination and that she doesn't have a chance, well it looks like that she might get one, but that wasn't enough for you to reduce this negative attitude, now you're saying even if she'll get a nomination she won't win, for someone who had 2000 her recent flops, lion is so far the perfect comeback for her, i hope she will keep choosing great scripts again like she used to do (i'm not being offensive don;t get me wrong).

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

I actually genuinely liked the Sia song. It's no 'Jai Ho' from 'Slumdog Millionaire' but it's an excellent fusion of modern pop with Bollywood/Bhangra music.

I don't know why y'all keep fighting though. Let's all respect each other's opinions. It's okay if you are cynical about the lips, the cheeks, the critics' rating. It's FINE. And it's amazing that someone else feels passionately positive.
It's all good, guys.

There're so many haters out there, why turn against one another.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

You're totally right, that's exactly what I'm trying to say but you said it in a better way.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Lets face it, if Davis and Harris gets in, are they really going to nominate a third blacl actress? I don't believe there's even been 2 in one category before now...

I wouldn't consider Harris a lock either. She's had some mixed reviews of late and the other main actors are getting raves.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

I saw the movie in MVFF and it has grown own me since then. Specially Nicole's moments, she's got a great delicate dinner table scene which for me in the most complicated one to play and her monologue that is absolutely stunning. I would count her as a lock and even a threat for win if it weren't for Davis. Her role inspires whoever watches it's something new in Nicole's cinematography, she hasn't played a longsuffering mother and a likeable character like this one for ages. Cinematography, screenplay and supporting actor (Patel) are on possible. As for best movie, welll...that's why they are campaigning so hard. It's possible but it needs audience good will to make it even in the 80 something in RT. I hope it scores. The rest is the rest. I just want Nicole to be a 4th time Oscar nominee and next year a 5th time oscar nomimee. I'm a fan.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Imo, Nicole is actually a strong contender. At this point, I would say that only Davis and Williams are locks. Naomie Harris is also shaky because the men in Moonlight seem to have gotten more raves. If Viola actually gets nominated in lead at the Globes (which they did to Rooney Mara last year), I honestly think Nicole could win in Supporting a la Winslet last year (c'mon, that GG nom is almost very assured). As for the Oscars, Lion's best bets are actually Supp Actress, Supp Actor, Cinematography, Adapted Screenplay and Picture. Maybe original score even. Actually, three pundits over at Gold Derby are champ 5b4 ioning Patel for the supporting actor award.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

If Viola gets nominated in lead at the Globes I think Williams wins, but lets wait. I only want a nomination for Nicole, its so unfair actresses like Roberts - I love her but she has more nominations than Nicole, HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE?Or Adams or even Lawrence, under her 30's with four nominations.

Finally Lion is going to open this week, I really need to see more reviews coming to have a better idea of the overall opinion. It is stuck at 26 reviews on Rotten for ages.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

The american reviewers / critics have been the toughest on it so far. We will be in for a slew of new ones this week which is both exciting and nerve wracking.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Do we have an idea how many screens would Lion be opening on?
I know it's not opening in the Boston area this week. Only a couple of cinemas in NYC & a couple in LA that I'm aware of.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Harvey usually opens in LA and NY first perhaps four screens and then expands gradually.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

After 2010, all Harvey's Ooscar November releases opened in 4 theaters. However Silver Linings Playbook opened in 16 theaters while My Week with Marilyn did it 244 (!). I think it is safe to say that 4 will be the number of theaters for Lion too.

This is a list of Harvey's latest PTA November relases in their opening weekend. I have only included openings in 4 cinemas.

2010 - The King's Speech: $88,863
2011 - The Artis: $51,220
2013 - Philomena: $32,109
2013 - Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom: $21,071
2014 - The Imitatation Game: $119,838
2015 - Carol: $63,378

Just a couple of interesting thought, Carol did more than The Artist but then it crashed when it went wide. The Imitation Game did more than The King's Speech, but in the long run, The King's Speech made a lot more money.

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

thanks for the information, do you have any idea when they will expand the release?

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

If you watch the episode of the Today Show where Dev Patel was the guest, the host said that it opens "nationwide" on Christmas Day. Just when we thought Nicole was doing all the promotion, Dev also appeared just recently on Colbert and Live with Kelly

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

I've seen lots and lots of Oscar buzz for Kidman online and acclaim. Fingers crossed that Lion could be the one. Nicole's working hard i see promoting.

I haven't posted for a while i have kept up to date with Nicole news. I am pleasantly surprised by all of this wonderful positivity (mostly!)

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

I'm quite optimistic about a nomination. I have this feeling it will happen, and I do hope so...
After the snubs for Paperboy, To Die For and so on...it will be well deserved!

I really do hope so! And couldn't agree more. Nicole has had quite a few snubs Birth and so on!

Re: state of the race for Supporting Actress

Birth, cold mountain (don't know why no one mentions it despite her terrific performance and her golden globe nomination for the role), to die for and recently paperboy.

Lion will open in 4 theaters

Next week things get started early as Disney's Moana, Paramount's Allied, Broad Green's Bad Santa 2 and Fox's Rules Don't Apply will all debut on Wednesday, vying for a piece of the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. On Friday Weinstein will debut Lion in four theaters and EuropaCorp will release the Jessica Chastain thriller Miss Sloane.
