In the House : Is Germain's wife really barren?

Is Germain's wife really barren?

Or Germain has lied about that to shift the responsibility for his childlessness?
Or Claude has lied about that lie to win Germain's wife attention?

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

My guess was Claude lied to win Germain's wife attention. But who knows !

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

Yeah, by that stage Claude was fully on the warpath.

When darkness overcomes the heart, Lil' Slugger appears...

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

When Claude asks Germain why they are childless, Germain says "None of your business". That's the only thing that's ever said about it.

So what's been bugging me is: Claude clearly wants to teach Germain a lesson at that point and goes after Jeanne on this very vulnerable point. And I guess he understands German & Jeanne's relationship enough to where he knows just the right thing to say.

At first I thought it was a bluff, that he was guessing, but then I thought, well, Jeanne really IS sterile, so she's going to think Germain revealed this to Claude OR she's not, and she's going to think Germain blamed her to his student to cover up a more painful truth.

It didn't quite seem in character for Claude to do this. Most of his other actions are harmlessly petty or foolishly naive. This was outright intending harm.

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

I would definitely say that Claude made it up, at this point it was clear he was a conniving and manipulative little prick...this became obvious when he threatened Rapha Jr with revealing he was gay when he confronted him about kissing his mother. So as this lie was what triggered the break up between Jeanne and Germain, I was hoping it was cleared during the argument on the bed, before she really left him.

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

It's way to clear what calude did is with preplan motive to get attention of Germain's wife.. He way better understand the situation which is going between this middle aged couple life...

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

Wasn't it Germain who told Claude at one point that; even if it's the truth, if it's boring or implausible, it doesn't matter, you shouldn't use it in the story.

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

I think from her reaction immediately after Claude announces this ando her response when Germain returns home, she was sterile indeed. Claude intuited this and used it as his 'way in' to Jeanne.

The distance is nothing. The first step is the hardest.

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

You Say... Claude intuited this and used it as his 'way in' to Jeanne. Are you saying he wanted her for himself?

Re: Is Germain's wife really barren?

No.

Ever tried, ever failed?
No matter.
Try again, fail again.
Fail better.
