Film General : Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko

Strange, unsettling movie. Unless you watch the director's cut, you won't have a clue what's happening. Luckily, it's all well explained in the DC - It involves alternate universes, cracks in the space- time continuum, a young super hero who saves the world, - and an amazing performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. Really creepy at times..mostly dark. Patrick Swayze plays a slimy sleazeball very well.
It will hang around you for a long time after you've done watching it.

Re: Donnie Darko

swayze always plays creeps. always. this movie had so much buzz around the time it came to video, but i think it suffered a bit in retrospect when people realized the plot was nonsensical and didn't mean anything. but man is it deep. so deep. that list you mentioned sounds like the director grasping at anything to explain his broken plot. "alternate universes." "i mean, cracks in space and time" "um… he's a super hero?". very deep.

Re: Donnie Darko

Re: Donnie Darko

I didn't really like it overall, although decent acting and great music.
I felt ripped off because I only realized it was impossible to understand what the hell was supposed to be going on from what was shown in the film itself after I had seen it and was reading articles/reviews/IMDB trivia about it (I watched it on DVD–don't recall whether I saw the director's cut or not).

Re: Donnie Darko

It took me a long time to see the brilliance of this movie. I had heard about it for years and years and then watched it but didn't like it at first. Eventually I rewatched it and now like it a lot.

It's only stalking if she doesn't like u back.
