Bad news for the MV Castor, one of the 3 dutch warships used for the shooting. She's now banned from sailing on sea by te local authorities. Her owner wrote on his Facebook page : "Castor now needs paperwork to continue, due to all attention cause by the film. Paperwork I was not able to acquire for 10 years. since she is a naval monument. And no legislation applies to that. There seems to be a way out for now, with the understanding we cannot go to Sea anymore... So taking passengers on inshore waters, thats it. It is a start. Was not even able to get that before all of this sh*t."

Christopher Nolan has completed filming "Dunkirk" in the US

Filming end to Warner studios for "Dunkirk" Harry Styles (left) poses with the costume designers, Christopher Nolan (right) with a production assistant.

The Anglo-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan has completed Friday in California filming Dunkirk, Dunkirk started in the month of May. The film, dedicated to the 1940 Operation Dynamo, hits theaters July 19, 2017.

"That's a wrap." It is the expression used in Hollywood to announce the closure of a shooting. Friday, Christopher Nolan has canned the latest scenes of Dunkirk (Dunkerque in French) at Warner Studios, in Burbank, in the greater Los Angeles (USA). The first clap was given on May 23 Leffrinckoucke beach , next to Dunkirk, where the filmmaker spent five weeks. Production was then moved to the Netherlands and England before returning to the fold, the United States , early August.

Members of the film crew - costume designers, production assistants - Friday have posted pictures of the "pot" organized at the end of filming, along with Christopher Nolan and Harry Styles, the One Direction singer who made his acting debut in the feature film.

After the heroes (Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight) and space travel (Interstellar), Christopher Nolan chose to look at a major episode in the Second World War: the Dynamo Operation May / June 1940 , which allowed to evacuate to England some 340,000 allied soldiers encircled by the Germans in the "pocket" of Dunkirk.

Dunkirk will now enter its phase known as post-production (editing, addition of sound and visual effects, music ...). The film will hit theaters next summer, July 19, 2017. A first stringer ad a minute broadcast on 4 August, has already given a slight taste. It is likely that a second trailer, plus provided, comes to the month of December. To be continued...

One very significant coup was attracting Christopher Nolan’s Second World War IMAX epic Dunkirk, which stars Tom Hardy and Harry Styles, to the Netherlands. Nolan’s film shot for more than four weeks in the Netherlands over the summer and received $1.2m (€1m) through the new incentive scheme.

Dunkirk Makes Christopher Nolan the Highest Paid Director in Hollywood

It is very difficult to become a highly respected director in Hollywood and it can be equally hard to get paid well for the type of work that gets one that kind of respect. In many cases, respect doesn't equal a massive payday, but in the chase of Christopher Nolan, the two are going hand in hand. His latest movie Dunkirk, a World War II epic due out next summer, has officially made him the highest paid director in Hollywood.

And OT but interesting - California Enacts Law Requiring IMDb to Remove Actor Ages on Request

The law, which becomes effective Jan. 1, 2017, applies to entertainment database sites that allow paid subscribers to post résumés, headshots or other information for prospective employers. Only a paying subscriber can make a removal or nonpublication request. Although the legislation may be most critical for actors, it applies to all entertainment job categories.

Trainer Ben Bruno on training Harry for Dunkirk:

Moving on from his baby-face, scrawny boyband days, Harry has had to beef up to play a solider in World War Two movie Dunkirk.

And we spoke to trainer-to-the-stars Ben Bruno, who helped whip Harry into shape.

He said: “Harry can pull more than 500lb, attached by a rope, with just his upper body. It is actually freakish.

“He trained very, very hard for the movie. Every day, in fact. He is the guy that most guys hate because he is good at everything.”

Ben added: “He can do more than any of the pro-athletes I train, believe it or not.”

Re: Set photos and interesting articles since start of filming

Fionn should prepare himself. He hasn't seen anything yet. Wait until the full trailers come out and the film starts being promoted next year, Then the Harry hysteria will really blow up.

It's not just the media. The studio is going to really push HS part in this to bring in more money from the PG-13 group. They know young girls aren't interested in a WW2 movie with a bunch of men old enough to be their fathers. He's going to be the young money draw for a lot of the 13 to 17 year olds. So all this Styles mania will just get worse.

How was working on Dunkirk with Christopher Nolan?

‘I worked with Christopher before on The Dark Knight Rises, and Dunkirk was just in town here. It was a small quick thing; here in LA. I actually got injured on set and was down for a couple days, now you mention it. I got to see Harry Styles [who appears in the film], which was fun. Was he doing well? The 2017 movies we can't wait to see
Next year is shaping up to be a cinematic cracker. These are the 50 upcoming movies we’re most excited about in 2017

Dunkirk

Few filmmakers tell grander stories than Christopher Nolan, and stories don’t come much grander than the British retreat from Dunkirk in the face of overwhelming Nazi forces. This looks like a modern-day version of one of those sprawling wartime epics you used to watch on bank holiday afternoons. The cast is typically impressive, with Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and One Direction moppet Harry Styles just the tip of a massive iceberg. Expect plenty of pluck, derring-do and explosions.

USA Today: The most must-see films of 2017, from 'Beauty and the Beast' to 'Star Wars'

Some new quotes from Nolan about his vision for Dunkirk:

'DUNKIRK' (July 21)

Writer/director Christopher Nolan grew up in England well aware of the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation, though he knows the World War II survival story is unfamiliar for a lot of Americans. He considers his movie — which focuses on British, French and other Allied soldiers being trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk, France, and driven to the sea with Nazis closing in — “the ultimate race against time.” While his cast includes Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and even One Direction’s Harry Styles, the film is led by 19-year-old British newcomer Fionn Whitehead as an English private named Tommy. “He’s just a kid, really, and that’s sort of the point. You see events very much through his eyes,” Nolan says. “We want to put the audience on that beach, put them on a boat heading over to Dunkirk, put them in the cockpit of a Spitfire. That’s the ambition and I’m bringing all my experience in filmmaking to bear trying to achieve it.”

Re: Set photos and interesting articles since start of filming

Hardy talks about Nolan, Harry Styles

Still, Hardy can probably work with any director he wants. He’s set for a third reunion with Christopher Nolan this summer when W.W. II drama Dunkirk hits theaters. That is one director he prefers not to fight with. “He’s too important to argue with a peon like me,” Hardy says with a laugh. “He wouldn’t stoop so low as to have an argument with a bag snatcher like myself. He’s a kingpin.”

Dunkirk, which stars Hardy as a spitfire pilot, also stars young One Direction singer Harry Styles in his first film role. Unfortunately, the pair didn’t really work together on the set. “I met him once, really briefly. It was lovely, big hug,” Hardy says. “He’s very polite and just a sweet guy.”

Nolan, however, was “very effusive” about Styles, Hardy continues. “And that’s not easy, to come in from a very specific department in the industry, and cross over. So poor guy is gonna be judged. I wouldn’t want to be in those shoes, but from what I hear is that, actually, it’s gonna be a very comfortable transition for him, because he’s done such great work—which is really a testament, not only to his skill as an artist, [but] also Christopher’s part in that as well. . . . One Direction aside, do you know what I mean? Which I can’t say I know an awful lot about.”

After working with Nolan on three films now, Hardy is an expert at handling secretive sets and rumors—like one whisper campaign claiming he’s set to appear in the next Star Wars film as a stormtrooper. “That’s like Nolan territory. I can’t tell you anything. And it’d be good to know myself,” he says with a laugh, denying the gossip.

It’s a very profound story. What’s lovely about it is that it’s a classic film, it’s so epic in the storytelling, and Chris [Nolan] has gone back to an old school film from the 1940s, 1950s and retold it. Just being there, you can see the effort in this huge orchestration. I was just in my own play – I had limited exposure to cast and crew. And there was also a lot of pressure, in the same way. I grew up in the generation of their granddads talking about the war. Everyone was colored by that experience — Dunkirk was a big turning point in the war.

Re: Set photos and interesting articles since start of filming

An interview I had not seen before, with a French extra:

A Boulonnais in first line in the last Nolan: «A true Spitfire flew over us»

Interview by Gautier Navet

On Thursday 23 June, the Dunkirk teams left the northern coast. According to Dutch media, Christopher Nolan is already tackling the shooting in the former island of Urk in the Netherlands. During six weeks, in Dunkirk, the British-American filmmaker allowed hundreds of extras to replay some scenes from Operation Dynamo (May to June 1940). Among them, Manuel Paque, a Boulonnais of 23 years, at the head of the company Atome Théâtre.

How did you learn about this search for extras?

I had heard about the cast on social networks. I then received an e-mail from Pôle Emploi indicating the procedure to follow. I am intermittent of the show, and as such, the production has partnered with Pôle Emploi to give priority to those who benefit from this status, each working day corresponding to a stamp for us.

What happened before the shoot? You have had to undergo some physical transformations?

Before filming, it was first necessary to check the questions of timetable. Originally, I was in a band that spun quite a bit (two days, ed). I then received a phone call to be placed in a privileged group, where we shot a lot more, and most of the time in the front line. Then there was the appointment at the FRAC of Dunkerque for fittings: two suits ... a lousy one for the days when we are at the bottom, and a much more detailed for the days when we were close to the camera. Then there was the 40s cut, short on the side with a length on top. And we all had to be shaved in the morning. It was easy enough to identify between extras in the street!

How long have you been shooting?

The filming went from May 26th to June 20th for me. The planning was initially well defined. And it became much more random. We could be called in the evening at 9 pm, the next day very early ... The days were long, very long ... Generally, at least 12 hours, with a meal break sometimes very succinct.

It must be really impressive to tread a beach surrounded by hundreds of soldiers?

It was sometimes very impressive, especially the day when the 1,350 extras were gathered on the beach. The few explosions and other special effects that we were able to attend put us in the bath. More generally, what impressed me was the means deployed. Huge military museum boats off day-round. A real Spitfire was flying over us, all filmed by a helicopter that did not let go of a plane. The models, the staff, the costumes ... It was enough to look around to realize the colossal budget of production.

Were the weather difficult in that period in the Dunkerque?

Weather ... What to say? Let's say that, basically, on the beach by the sea, or downright at sea on boats, it is not always very hot, even in the sun. There, we were treated to rain, wind, storms ... There have been many crises of hypothermia and abandonment. Some days of filming on the pier were particularly difficult. In addition to the rain, the waves passed over and soaked everyone ... Finally, on days when the sun gave, we went home red crayfish ... What made us even more identifiable in the street, that said.

Did you know exactly what you were doing, you had a specific role, or did the film crew leave the extras in the blur?

Most often, we waited. Between the takes, which is normal on a shoot, but also during. Because English soldiers were waiting on the beach to be embarked ... So concretely, 90% of the time, we waited. The remaining 10% fled a sometimes invisible threat or applauded an equally imaginary allied vehicle. Or we boarded boats ... We must know that each group had a leader, also listed, but with an administrative burden and an additional responsibility: the leaders managed the group and received the news by talkie. If at the beginning, we knew very clearly when it was turning, very quickly, it was no longer the case. The leaders no longer necessarily have the info, so that it was sometimes even longer that we did not know if we could move freely! In the end, we have a vague idea of the scenes in which we participated and the order in which they take place, but we also know that the final rendition will make us all funny.

Have you had the chance to meet stars?

Yes, almost every day, since our group had the chance to be often close to the camera. We were able to see Christopher Nolan very closely, as well as his closest technical team, including his director of photography, Hoyte Van Hoytema. We were also able to see very closely, and on several occasions, the excellent Kenneth Branagh, and saw Mark Rylance.

Was this your first experience in front of a camera?

At all. In addition to endorsing the role of the director in videos made for plays or workshops at the theater (Manuel Paque is at the head of the company Atome Théâtre in Boulogne, editor's note), I participated in some films and series as Appearing. I had a few roles in short films too (notably in Le Bain de Murphy, with Jean-Claude Dreyfus, a Boulonnais film that will be shown on Thursday July 7th at Carré Sam).

Has this shooting reinforced your love of cinema or the other side of the scenery has it broken a little magic?

It does not break the magic, I knew what to expect ... But it allows on the other hand to see the rigor necessary in this kind of production. For my part, I come from the theater and I have this love of the stage and the public that drives me to prefer it to the cinema. Not to mention the interminable waiting time between two takes of a movie. In the end, the job of actor of cinema and that of actor in the theater are, for me, two very different things. This shooting will remain an unforgettable experience, which allowed me to make beautiful encounters. The extreme conditions may also be for something ... We plan to regroup a maximum of guys from my group to go see the film together.

Huge Dunkirk poster on outside in LA (via @JennRoss623)

I don't know if this is a cinema or a studio. @UniversalCore (LA entertainment pundit?) said "they're editing about a few feet from that poster"

EDIT: I was told this is Warner Bros studio.
