I thought it was well known that he and Andi Peters were gay (Not together I don't think).
It was one of those 1990's things which came out to show us all how tolerant or whatever we're meant to be around having homosexual men talking to children via the TV.

Well I knew about Peters but Schofield is news to me.

I think Mr D should come out just to piss you off, I'm sure he's last all of 1 second as gay
Perhaps I'm of a similar mindset to him though, I'm pretty sure it was either already a known fact or was just simply obvious and so was taken as such.
I suppose it's a good litmus test for society when someone being homosexual isn't anything worth being bothered about. I'm sure it was something for Philip to address but I couldn't give a monkey's about what he sticks his end in (Or the other way around).
I do feel sorry for the wife though if she's not been aware of it (Hint, she knew like the rest of us did from the start).

I guess his wife has known for a while since he felt comfortable enough to make an announcement knowing he wouldn't humiliate her with surprise.

I've known plenty of guys who come out later in life. They still care for their families and their wives still love them but it's all rather an awkward affair compared to conventional relationships.
I've also known gay men and lesbian women marrying because it helps their career progression - it's a weird world where people share resources for flippant reasons but it's their resources and everyone is consenting about it so no harm done.

Our generation has been the most inclusive, non-judgemental that I remember. I dislike the judgement bestowed on our generation by a young gen without a clue.

Jess Phillips might not notice that she's saying nigger casually and with a huge smile but that's what she's saying and it's a little uneasy to watch with it being so callous and accepted as being noble.
As for experience begetting knowledge, I'd say there is no true knowledge without experience and that to be a success you have to have a large amount of failures to overcome. Nothing wrong with books or movies though, just remember that they are contained universes and the world generally isn't and can change on a whim.
