American Made : september date,mediocre alert ?

september date,mediocre alert ?

Ok,when the movie announced it's january release date,i was very confident because they did that almost an year ago i think in june 2015,so i thought the studio is very confident about the movie giving it an oscar friendly date, now the release date is shifted to sept 2017 which is not exactly a bad date but i had so high hopes for the movie this date shift makes me worried that may be the movie is mediocre, not bad(coz liman, cruise) what do you guys think ?

Re: september date,mediocre alert ?

It is mediocre, I never thought it was an Oscar type movie. Watchable but forgettable. Maybe pushing it back to give them them more time to work on it, maybe reshoots and Tom is not available for a while?

it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again

Re: september date,mediocre alert ?

The move is purely commercial imo. Cruise has the new JR out in mid October, and they obviously did not want to take away from the potential earnings of that film by promoting another Cruise film at the same time. If they had started their promotional campaign for AMERICAN MADE after that film's release, then there simply wouldn't have been enough time to get the awareness levels up with the original January release.

Then after that he is in another Universal movie, THE MUMMY, which (like JR) is clearly a bigger priority for the studio and Cruise, and the same problem with clashing promotional campaigns rises up. Plus possible Cruise fatigue too with so many movies releasing close to each other so really, there was no other choice but to stick this towards the end of the year, which if the film itself is good, bodes well for its prospects of possible Awards consideration.

Re: september date,mediocre alert ?

I agree with the whole scheduling thing, makes sense.

I wonder when MI6 will be out now and how that will fit in. I hear possible Xmas 2017 release. Though MI movies are a little different than the upcoming 3.
