Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

...have mostly appreciated the clear, user-friendly and neat design these message boards have always provided for us all these many years which will be gone forever in less than two weeks now. It's your chance as the Classic Film Board community to stay together side by side with, ideally, every other main board community and in an environment that you've always known.

I'm of course not sure how far you as a community have made progress in finding a new place to hang and chat so far, but....... a diligent poster from our group on the Game of Thrones board has worked on a do-it-yourself forum for the last two days, creating a very close imdb "atmosphere" with a similar design and layout, but only covering the main boards. Our "engineer" needs to add some details here and there, but it's already obtainable.

Have a look, and if you like it, start posting!

http://thegotboard.com/

We are trying to inform all the busy main boards to bring maximum traffic to our new forums and provide for more interaction among each board community from which we have always benefited from. That's the big advantage of getting as many communities on board as possible. We don't want them streaming out to all the other different and rather cohere platforms and never.. come back.. *dramatic gaze*

So, if you like what we were doing here, maybe you can help spread the word all over imdb as long as can be on this sinking ship?

We'd be very happy if you joined. And see you on the other side!

*Bump*

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

A suggestion

Get rid of Film General, and everything in the "General" section, i.e., Soapbox, Politics, Religion, etc., etc.

Those were causing lots of problems with the old IMDb.

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

Fair points.

As I have replied to you on the I Need to Know and Film-Noir board before, I have already refused to inform the Soapbox, Politics and Religion boards because of that problem.

Film General community is just too valuable overall. We know a lot of their trolls already, since we are pretty close with that board and our forum is administrated by real people(!), GoT posters, who are aware. But yeah, all those others are being left out. We just included them here to keep it as true to the original as possible. ;)

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

without Film General people would be forced to the other boards, less likelihood of concentrating the lowest common denominator of idiots

IMHO

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

Ok, I understand that. Good point, again, but I doubt that every poster who has ever posted on the FG, may it be 1,000,000,000 just to have a number, is going to emigrate to our place anyway. In fact we are reaching out more to the reg group of the board, which might be around 50-60 people, certainly not more than a 100. And of course everyone else not part of that group who wants to join can join.

There won't be much traffic coming from outside once the IMDb boards are closed and everyone has settled in. We kind of imagine our place like a school building with different classrooms where people hang out, waiting for the day Col is finally coming to his senses and decides to re-open the boards, altered and enhanced. We consider our forum, for now, as more of a bridge rather than a social media platform that's gonna grow constantly, with a traffic of millions of users every week. No no.

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

How would you keep out trolls and those who start OT threads about politics?

Re: Hello there! We have created an IMDb-like forum for everyone who

We are avoiding the big troll infested boards during the initial PR and we are administrating and moderating our forum. However, we are humble enough to know that we won't ever come to IMDb levels of board traffic, so it's gonna be much more overseeable for us who run the forum and hard for the trolls to make trouble but stay undetected. No forum in this world can initially keep out all the trolls. They appear, they get hunted, they get removed, like everywhere. Again, this is not IMDb2.0, but a much smaller, neat, compact little place not run by corporates.

As for OT threads, there is nothing we can do really, but count on each poster's own tolerance. When wandering on a message board it should be naturally high. If a someone has a very low tolerance, after all, as always, report button is your lover, but try to leave it to an one night stand. Spamthreads when detected by a moderator are getting removed immediately, or after it got reported. Same procedure as everywhere. :)
