Logan : Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Probably the best character to do a Marvel film rated "R". Hopefully no more kiddie Marvel films.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

DareDevil directors cut was R rated. Deadpool

---

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Actually, before those there was The Punisher (Lundgren AND the one with Travolta[which I believe came before the DD Directors cut]).
And Blade was also rated R. I believe Blade 2 was, too. But I'd have to check.
But, definitely the first X-Men to be rated R. Even with Jackman as James dropping the 'F' bomb in First Class. (Keep in mind, he wasn't Logan or EVEN Wolverine until after he got in the bar-fight with Victor Creed and later losing his memory of Magneto and Professor X approaching him. After all, he wasn't full of rage, yet.)
Which brings me to my next point. When McAvoy told Wolverine, in Days of Future's Past, what Wolverine told X and Magneto, the quote wasn't the same (another 'F' bomb dropped), Wolverine would have corrected him, had he had his memories of that.
I mean, nowadays, movies get a R rating, if even ONE use of the 'F' word is made. Even, under the character's breath.
Just saying.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

It's because movies these days are getting more and more lax with the ratings. Some of these movies would have been R decades ago. But they can get away with more stuff. Think about the buttshot in DoFP. That alone would have been cut to keep it from getting an R rating. What did T2 have that would cause it to have an R rating? A little bit of profanity and robots shooting each other? There really wasn't any gore besides T1000 stabbing people and T800 shooting people in the leg. T2 probably would have gotten a PG13 these days.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Forgot about those, or thought they were pg 13

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

You must really hate Star Wars, Star Trek, Dr Who, Lord of the Rings...

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

There is a difference. A character like Logan needs to have a rated R movie, just like Deadpool. Whereas, Lord of the Rings didn't NEED to be Rated R because storytelling could be really well done at PG-13. Wolverine is inherently a violent character. So is X-23, period.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Why? Because neither have anything else to them worth watching if they can't hack up people?

If that's true, then they're pretty shallow characters.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Ok, I'll put it this way. I have a few questions for you to make my point. Please respond because I would like your response to this. To start off, Would 'The Godfather' would have been the same movie if it was PG-13 and not Rated-'R'. Would 'The Godfather Part II' have been the same movie if it wasn't Rated-'R'? Would 'The Silence of the Lambs' be the same movie, would Anthony Hopkins won the academy award, if it wasn't Rated-'R'? Would have 'Pulp Fiction' had the same cultural impact if it wasn't Rated-'R'? Would 'The Matrix' (the first movie) have had such a great impact on Our Culture without the Rated-'R' rating? Would have 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' extended version been able to completely express the ideals that it wanted to express without a Rated-'R' rating? The answer to all of these questions, in my opinion, is 'H*ll No".

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

This is a really unpopular opinion, but given how most people COMPLETELY misunderstood the point that the Director was trying to make with those movies I'm starting to think maybe they WOULD have been better off rated differently. The audience they attracted walked away with the opposite opinions the Director wanted.

'The Silence of the Lambs' be the same movie, would Anthony Hopkins won the academy award, if it wasn't Rated-'R'? Would have 'Pulp Fiction' had the same cultural impact if it wasn't Rated-'R'?

Haven't seen either.

Would 'The Matrix' (the first movie) have had such a great impact on Our Culture without the Rated-'R' rating?

Frankly, I find the first Matrix movie less and less enjoyable everytime I see it.

Would have 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day' extended version been able to completely express the ideals that it wanted to express without a Rated-'R' rating?

I didn't like T2. The only Terminator I REALLY enjoyed was the first one.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

The Matrix, yes. The only things that made The Matrix R was profanity and the lobby scene. There really wasn't much blood in the movie. What did Anthony Hopkins do that made the movie have to be rated R? His acting won the Academy Award. Not the movie being rated R. The theater cut of T2 was R, also. Would the Godfather movies be the same with a PG13 rating? Maybe.

But then you pull these R rated movies out. What about all the R rated movies that sucked? Without a good movie behind it, all you have is thinking "At least I saw an R rated movie."

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Nope. All of the stuff in the proper MCU is owned by Disney. It will remain as a pg cartoon series.

Everything xmen related is owned by Fox, also there have been other R Rated "marvel" movies, including Deadpool, a couple of punisher films, blade and basically all of the Netflix "defenders" stuff, daredevil, etc., are all R.

In addition I've seen the first episode of FX's Legion, and though Tv isn't subject to the MPAA, if it were, they'd almost certainly give Legion an R Rating, again, based only on the pilot episode.

J.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

And part of the MCU.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

It's very tertiary and tangential at best. It's clearly NOT in the proper MCU.

J.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

It is, stuff from the movies directly influenced the Netflix series.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Well.. it is.

Yep if you include Marvel characters, there have been several R rated marvel movies.

If you mean the MCU, then the netflix stuff qualifies as it is TV-MA.

Never understood the obsession with this though. I am excited for Logan and loved Deadpool, but for the most part Marvel movies are based on comicbook characters aimed at young boys, and the movies are the same. These are movies about people who dress up to fight villains who dress up themselves. If you want some gritty adult movie, watch a mob movie.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

lmao...logan is not kiddie marvel

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Nah, just more of the same banal nonsense Fox has been pooping out.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Um, what about Deadpool? That featured a lot of mature content.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Too bad that IMDB forum will close before the movie gets released. I'd like to see the war here.

Re: Finally, a rated 'R' Marvel.

There's so much factually wrong about your post and your ignorance to ownership rights so blatant I don't even know why I'm replying.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

I'm sure a lot of people are happy it will be rated R, but some are not.
I know some people, like me and my wife, don't watch R rated movies. So this will be the first "X-men" movie that we don't watch and I am sure they will lose some others (teens/kids) by making the movie rated R.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

I hope you and your wife one day choke on the regurgitated PG-13 garbage Hollywood has been cramming down your gaping pieholes. Almost every live-action filmmaker that cares even slightly about his craft would,if given a choice, make his movies primarily R or even NC-17, but partly because of boneheaded tools like they have tiptoe around backwards and arbitrary restrictions.
You, like every censor (since I have zero doubt that if you have or ever will have children, you will impose the same ban on them as well), are an enemy to art.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Posts like these are why the boards are closing down.

Its amazing how people hang around message boards of movies they dont like

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

As if there isn't "regurgitated" R garbage Hollywood has been putting out.

As if there aren't any live-action filmmakers who have children and want to make movies for them, and, unlike you, don't think R or NC-17 are children appropriate.

As if money isn't the way people survive in this world and how they can continue to do things like "their craft."

As if R or NC-17 is appropriate for all stories, people, ages, and anything else.

As if an individual choosing what they do or do not like is "censorship." Look up the word -- you are not using it correctly.

"Art" is a very subjective word, open to opinion but most people would agree that just because a filmmaker makes an R or NC-17 rated film does not automatically classify it as "art," just as PG-13 rating and lower doesn't automatically classify it as "regurgitated garbage."

I think you should do some soul searching. I also think you might want to open your mind to the fact that there are different opinions in the world and just because some -- or probably all of them -- are different than yours doesn't mean they are "boneheaded tools." In fact, if anything, the term usually applies to the person using it.

~ I keep my expectations low -- then I can be pleasantly surprised.~

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

That is a very ignorant and rude statement. If someone chooses to avoid R rated films due to their content, it doesn't effect you and it's not really any of your business anyways. Movies don't NEED to be R or NC-17. Just because something has a ton of violence, sex, and swearing doesn't make it good. Would you like it if Finding Nemo was rated R then?

Wow, it's hard for me to believe that there are people like you in the world, but I guess there are.
Some people just prefer not to watch some of that stuff (which is why you have to be 18 or older to go to the movie). All I did was say that I was a little disappointed about it. And you attack me like I'm the terrible person.
Goodbye.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

I agree with you, spoofrice11.

Grow bigger balls, fagget.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

why don't you and your wife watch r-rated movies? i don't mean to insult you or anything, that just seems a little, i dunno, juvenile? fake-outrage? lol i can understand not wanting to watch a specific movie because of something specific, like graphic sex scenes or rape scenes or "torture porn", gratuitous blood and stuff... but just to blanket-statement say "i don't watch r-rated movies"? clutching pearls much? lmao

i dunno if you have netflix, but the king's speech (rated r) is on there and it is a fantastic movie, just to name one....

It's mercy, compassion and forgiveness I lack. Not rationality...

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

On the other hand they will win back some people, who gave up on watching pony-land Marvel movies.
X-Men is partially a very dark comic series and so far the movies have mostly been funky happy-town adaptions.

Death, brutality and despair is supposed to make us feel uncomfortable. Taking that out of the movies ruins the whole thing.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Oh *beep* you. We all know you're gonna see all the MCU in your onesy pajamas.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Nobody remember 'Blade?' The Marvel film that started all the modern Marvel films. If it was brought up in this thread, I didn't see it.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

it's mentioned in the fourth entry of this thread. still, valid to be pointed out (if again).

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

Deadpool was rated R, smart one.

Re: Finally, a rated "R" Marvel.

It is a Fox film, not a Marvel film.
