I used to think that. My Ancestry.com DNA Report initially said 33% of my DNA was from Scandinavia.

But they've corrected that to 59% Germanic Europe and 41% England, Wales & NW Europe. This is actually more in line with what my grandparents, and other relative have told me.



PS But now I'm 100% American!

That makes no sense. English is a Germanic language so the English are "Germanic" if not German. They are descended from the Germanic tribes who invaded the island of Great Britain. So how is "Germanic Europe" different from "England, Wales & NW Europe"?

Yes it does, actually.

"Germanic Europe" is defined by Ancestry.com as Germany, and part of the countries which surround it. I know that is a fact, because I've traced my great, great grandfather to Kolmar, a city in Alsace, France. Alsace is on the German border. I'm also pretty sure I have ancestors from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as from the U.K.

According to most scientists, you can trace all of mankind back to the plains of Africa. Following your logic, we're all Africans.
