Beauty and the Beast : the ballroom scene
Re: the ballroom scene
Emma said the image of Beast twirling Bell with his hands on her would give people the impression that she was somehow under his control, so they decided to leave it out. In the new one, they pretty much just touch hands while they dance. According to Emma, this would make them appear as equals.
Re: the ballroom scene
Following the production of this movie has made me realize one thing: Emma Watson seems annoying.
Re: the ballroom scene
Maybe she shouldn't be a period film ever again since she can't deal with the realities. I.e women then ALL WORE corsets and a man leads and holds you when you ballroom dance!!!
To you, Baldrick, the Renaissance was just something that happened to other people, wasn't it?

Re: the ballroom scene
They actually bought what you wrote without asking for a source. That was easy.
Re: the ballroom scene
Emma needs to stop with her over stupid comments. She already changed the character so much. I am wondering why they listened to her in the first place. Isn't the actress supposed to transform into the character ? She made the total opposite by changing Belle into herself.
First, it was all about making Belle a feminist, then an inventor, wearing Boots, being a tom boy. Now it is about a dance ball scene.
Damn

Re: the ballroom scene
They look great, and I don't understand the hate for the dress, it's really beautiful.

It's fascinating that some people are annoyed by changes like Belle wearing boots, or her being an inventor. LIKE FOR REAL. You guys hate things to hate things.

Re: the ballroom scene
I definitely agree. The dress is beautiful. They both are great together.
As for the thing about people hating things to hating things, you can't be more right. They fail to understand why some changes were made to Belle. Emma Watson's belle is more practical than the original belle in terms of wearing shoes. Also, her being an inventor like her father gives a better reason why she's an outcast in her village. And Emma not wearing corsets, it's part of belle's character, as she's the one who defies what society is expecting her to be or do.

Re: the ballroom scene
U guys sound so stupid. If we follow your logic, Belle from the animated movie is not the real Belle. Yeah she wasn't an inventor, and her yellow dress was stunning. Was she uninteresting ? Hell no.
Emma s trying way too hard to make the character like herself.
What is so anti feminist about Belle wearing a stunning dress and being gracious ?

Re: the ballroom scene
Did you not listen to reasons why there were some changes to belle?
1. The reason why belle became an inventor like her father is because it gives a better reason why belle is an outcast to the whole town.
2. The reason why she wears boots in this film is because it's unrealistic to wear flats when she's riding a horse, running through the snow, and doing inventions. It's called being practical.
3. Emma Watson said that Belle became her role model because she defies what society is expecting of her, just like Emma. The reason why Emma didn't want Belle to wear corsets is because she wanted to expand on Belle's rejection of society's expectations of her.
Judging from your comments, it seems that you don't like things being more realistic and practical in this film.

Re: the ballroom scene
Weren't you supposed to leave this board ?
I have nothing against the fact that they are trying to make things a little more realistic (even if it is a musical telling a fairy tale story).
Emma is ruining the character with her stupid standards. Yeah Belle doesn't follow trend but why didn't they keep what made Belle the princess we all loved ? I mean, Emma doesn't do any effort to be the character but she is making the character like she is. The movie isn't supposed to be a platform where she wants to share her ideas and demands.
Why they let her transforming Belle into a tomboy, not pretty, ungracious and untalented "singer" is a mistery to me.

Re: the ballroom scene
Belle is a feminist, a bookworm, and one who speaks her mind, just like Emma does. Emma is the real life Belle.
You're clearly a hater. You're just like Gaston and the other villagers who shun Belle out. You're not worth my time.

Re: the ballroom scene
Yes! There was another reason I didn't like Emma in this role that I couldn't articulate, but that's just it:
It's not Belle. It's not even Emma as Belle. It's a 21st century Emma Watson singing some songs from Beauty & the Beast
At least, that is the impression I am getting more and more all the time.
And while you always bring a part of yourself to any role you play and expanding on some things isn't a bad thing, you should still become that character - not make the character become you. It should still seem like the same person, even with your own flair, not a completely different oneespecially since it seems like they really want to stick to the 1991 cartoon - right down to camera angles. If you're doing a completely different retelling, that's a bit different, but if you want to stick to tried and true, why mess so much with the title character?

Re: the ballroom scene
I am a bit surprised to see at last you were willing to reply to my comment. I have had some very thought out and articulate responses to some of your posts, which you have never engaged.
I am not at all surprised that when you finally did reply it was only to label me as a hater. It seems you are not willing or able to participate in true discussion and exchange of ideas.
I know you refuse to believe this, but people can have their reservations and not like choices made about something without being a hater (as in, determined to hate something no matter what). If you would thoughtfully read my posts, you would see that I have changed my mind about some things for the better and do want to be proven wrong and like this movie, but so far all my initial concerns are being proven correct. You, on the other hand, are just determined to love this blindly, which is fine - nobody's stopping you, but you are always drawn back to these boards to defend your idol without allowing people to have different opinions and having true discussion.
It doesn't hurt me any if you don't like me or my opinions, but I feel kind of sad for you that you take any critique of this movie personally and are so close-minded to anything that even deviates slightly from your point of view.

Re: the ballroom scene
We can't criticize this film before it's even out. It's best if we can just hold up until the film is out. The reason why I lashed out at those who are saying bad things about it, is because people judge the film before its even out.
Re: the ballroom scene
See my previous responses to you regarding movie trailers & advertising and how you also are judging this film before it's even out.
That was one of your more civil posts on this board though which is good, and people would take you more seriously if you were more even more laid back in your temperament, courteous in your replies, and open to the existence of differing opinions.
A singer may have a different perspective than a non-singer.
A Harry Potter fan may have a different perspective than one who isn't.
Someone who grew up loving the cartoon may have a different perspective than someone who didn't, etc.
(And even these categories don't determine what everyone within them will think and feel about this movie. People are unique, and that's one of the things that make them special and life interesting).
It just may be that some people's concerns are legitimate, as may be some of your hopes.
And lashing out at even the harshest, most inconsiderate critics isn't helpful either, because then all you are left with is two angry people getting more angry.
