TV General : Anyone who has Netflix…

Anyone who has Netflix…

Do you notice you have to turn the volume way, WAY up? I have to turn it up to nearly 20 to watch anything on Netflix, but then when I go back to regular TV to watch the news, it sounds outrageously loud and back down to 9 I go. That seems like a pretty large margin for a difference in volume, doesn't it?

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

Yes, I need to turn it all the way up. It gets annoying.

You're just getting old.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

Silly sausage.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

Yes. And with Amazon Prime I have to turn it down for the pre show commercials and previews and then back up again for the show.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

What is UP with that anyway? For some reason, I thought there were some kind of regulations that went into effect a few years ago because people were complaining about super loud commercials. You have to sit there with a remote in your hand while the movie needs to be turned up and the commercials are being blared super loud. Very annoying.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

It’s something to do with having all the sound at the same level (as someone explained on UK radio once) or by using this method

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) suggests people adjust the settings on their TV and/or file a complaint with the FCC in response to commercials that are louder than TV shows. … However, certain companies and marketers get around this rule by making the volume spike in certain parts of the commercial.17 Jul 2018

So they’ll say the commercials are not louder, they just come across as louder.

It’s a pathetic excuse and hopefully they will all burn in Hell.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

I watch Prime on the Amazon Firestick HD. It has a volume leveling feature that seems to work well across its apps which include Netflix. Another feature that should be used is the video frame rate adjustment. I wish we could opt out of the preshow garbage on Amazon.

There's nothing I can do with my old DVR to level the sound.

Don't worry so much about nonsense like that, I just saw some kids out on your lawn! Quick, prepare the ovens!

I accept your complete surrender. Now bend and kiss the ring while I remove your head, you won't be needing that where you're going next.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

Yeah, but are they going to try to eat my gingerbread house?

If they don't then I will!

Gingerbread is my favorite!

Yep, it’s the same down here in oz.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

We have a 2nd gen AppleTV and my gripe with it as it interfaces with Netflix is that when there's a loud scene or crescendo of any kind, it is way too loud, and if I adjust the sound lower, then it's not loud enough when things go back to normal.

This is especially noticeable when watching something like Stranger Things. I'm considering getting some wireless headphones.

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

I watch Netflix on my laptop, so I don't really experience these problems.

Change your TV

Well, this is a tomb. I'll make them feel at home

Re: Anyone who has Netflix…

I think it goes beyond "this" TV. Look how many people are complaining about the very same thing, that commercials are way louder than movies, and that the music or sound effects are extremely loud but the dialogue and conversations are lower.

It's been like this for years. It wasn't like this decades ago, but as technology advances, there seems to be an agenda for us to feel immersed and in so doing, they exaggerate sounds way, way too much.
