Roundhay Garden Scene : How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I was there.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original releas

Me too.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original releas

Same here as soon as it started I knew that this was one to add to my Betamax library.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

When I saw this it had an intermission and a second feature, 'Leeds Bridge' All this and enough change from a penny to catch the omnibus back to the workhouse. Ah, those were the days.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

Simply their master in technology would rule all over us if they were inventing nowadays. this movie is greatly pitoresque.

Read my bio and pray a lot.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I was just there. It was awesome. Then, I got hit by a carriage and I woke up in 2008. Am I mad, in a coma, or forward in time? Whatever's happened, it's like I've landed on a different planet. Now, maybe if I can work out the reason, I can get home.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

Why would you want to get home? In 2008, we have Jaffa Cakes.

Hi there, Buck. Sorry, but even in 2008, we don't know how to get you back home yet.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original releas

Luckily enough, I was able to sneak a camera into the theater the day it was released and create a bootleg of it.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I was there at its New York premiere. No one took it seriously, the entire audience was laughing and mocking it throughout the length of its running time - - and yet nowadays the so-called critics hail it as an all-time classic and all the other sheep blindly agree. I mean, any truly independent thinker like me and all my fellow New Yorkers would see that it's a terribly acted, plotless, sloppily directed wreck of a film.

And still, they hail this empty, nihilistic trash and completely ignore true classics like the sublime "Electrocution of an Elephant" and the transcendental "The Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots". Argh.

You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original releas

I was also there, but I gotta say, by the time it reached about .9 seconds, I could hear yawning, see people looking at the watch and listening to some people complain about how long it was. Major pacing problems due to bad editing.

"You keep him in here, and make sure HE dosen't leave!"

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I thought that was you! I got up to say hello but the movie ended and you were gone.

Seems like the whole thing last about 3 seconds.

Such a shame that the trilogy in total lasted 15 seconds including the premovie cartoon.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I missed it at the theater, but my grandson saw it 27 times and was raving about it for years.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original releas

When I first heard about it, I thought: "Not another Hollywood remake!"

And then they changed the end: Harriet Hartley turns to her LEFT instead of right

Boycott this movie

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I was suppose to go but they were showing "Traffic Crossing Leeds Bridge" at the same time and it ran over.

I still have some popcorn from that show though. It's a little dry now.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

Now that I think of it, I came home right after seeing the movie and posted a review on IMDB.

Same then as it is now, I was told I was wrong to like the movie and it was the worse ever!!

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I was actually present at the filming of this movie. I remember informing the actors that they would all be on Youtube some 120 + years later. They didn't seem all that interested, though.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I think they didn't show interest because the wage scale for actors not in the guild.

If you can contact any in this movie, have them sign their SAG cards immediately and they might collect royalties from syndication.

I missed it as I died a few days before the Royal Premiere.
I wonder what Queen Victoria thought of it?

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I do not believe you.

As far as I know the only still living audience member who attended the first screening of "Roundhay Garden Scene" is Mr. Harry S. Plinkett.

Actually my grandfather was at the premier on his 18th birthday, he's what got me into movies!

Agreed. For me, the plot just went around in circles.

Re: How many other people saw this in the theater on its original release?

I saw this film at the Nickelodeon in 1888, stopping on my way to buy a block of ice. Things sure have come a long way since those days. As for me, well...rigor-mortis keeps me indoors a lot, and I've been farting mummy-dust since 1961.

Butt out of this or I’ll strip the hide off your cherry picker!
