Sinister : Why was the hanging always played?

Definately a good creep and wacked out ending film but am I missing why every time Ellison "the writer" went to see the creepy film playing in his office after he put it away was always the hanging scene playing on the film & his laptop? Just wondering?

And couldn't that washout pay his electric bill? Agreed with "why the hell wouldn't you turn on the damn lights." That was an act that got to me from the get go of the film. Annoying! I know he was deluded but if someone fell though the roof of my house I would wake the hell up!

He didn't turn on the lights because any person should know ,especially him, in a case of a break in or someone trying to break in or suspected person has broken in then you don't turn on the lights. It gives away your location. He didn't know there was a Bagul until later in the movie. He didn't believe in the supernatural. It wasn't until later when Deputy So & So came over and he asked him if believed in paranormal. After that then, yeah, I would have been turning on the lights. I am not sure why he would use the flash light all the time unless his other purpose he didn't want to wake his family and alarm them.

It was that film because they were in the house where that murder happened. It was the passing link. That was the murder his book was about.
