We're Rich Again : Very cute movie, but for Arabella…

Very cute movie, but for Arabella…

I actually found this to be very clever, well-written and enjoyable. If only that shrill-voiced actress hadn't been in practically every scene! Every time she trilled her way through a line, I wanted to hit fast-forward. If only a different actress had played cousin Arabella, I think the movie would have been so much more enjoyable.

Re: Very cute movie, but for Arabella…

AFAIC, Marian Nixon was too cute to be annoying as Arabella.

No blah, blah, blah!

Re: Very cute movie, but for Arabella…

I wholeheartedly agree. The character could have been much better with someone who had a true Texas accent and a less whiny, sing-song voice. I thought the move was good over all an kept my attention throughout. I am a huge fan of Edna Mae Oliver and I loved this character of the Polo Playing grandmother. I wish there had been more of her!

Edna Mae Oliver was great in this! I absolutely love her.

Re: Very cute movie, but for Arabella…

The character was, if anything, more obnoxious than her snobby cousins. Beyond the endless yacking, she was pretty nervy, wearing clothes from her cousin's trousseau without permission (even if her own clothes had not arrived, surely even the most uneducated hick knows not to wear someone else's "new" clothes when the cousin undoubtably had many nice "older" things). I don't think the problem was Marian Nixon at all if was the character who was written as basically a hillbilly Gracie Allen. Anyone who played this part would have been annoying.

And hated it that Edna May Oliver despite her top billing had very little to do in this movie.
