The Baker's Wife : Not on DVD.

Not on DVD.

Why hasn't Criterion or Kino released this wonderful movie on DVD?

Re: Not on DVD.

Why oh why, indeed? Come on Criterion....make two filmlovers happy.

Re: Not on DVD.

Indeed. Make that three filmlovers.

Re: Not on DVD.

Make that four! Does anyone know where to find the book? I have looked for it for years and years and.......

Re: Not on DVD.

The Baker's Wife (La Femme du Boulanger) is based on an episode in the novel Jean le Bleu by French author Jean Giono.

Search Amazon for Jean le Bleu Giono.

I believe it's only in French. One copy (with the sunflower on the cover) says English in Amazon's description, but from looking around at other sites and comparing the ISBN I believe that too is actually in French.

Here's a site that compares some elements of the lives of Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giano. You can load the URL into Google Translate.

Re: Not on DVD.

My local video store had a copy and I rented it twice on VHS. Then someone stole it and I later noticed that there were a few copies on eBay for hundreds of dollars. Apparently, there are people who are going around and stealing copies of books and videos that are in limited circulation and selling them. Some people do not like to share....
