The Mummy's Hand : New Review: 'The Mummy's Hand'

New Review: 'The Mummy's Hand'

They can't all be great.

Part of the cycle inherent to looking at genre film is looking at less than inspiring genre film. "The Mummy's Hand" falls squarely into that category. Born of later Universal horror productions, Christy Cabanne's thunderously failed walking dead story can be a bit trying.

On the other hand, it features Tom Tyler in a nearly perfect physical performance of the title character and a particulary artistic shot three-quarters of the way through the movie that begs some consideration. There's a vague homoerotic subtext, a bit of aborted soapboxing about imperial arrogance. That's the gold dust in the bottom of an otherwise very muddy pan. Part of the joy of the genre, sometimes, is finding that little bit of glitter in the muck.

You're definitely entitled to your opinion.

This is my all time favorite Mummy movie though.
