The Soapbox : John banned me from v2 for no reason.

John banned me from v2 for no reason.

I asked about Frank due to being temp. banned from the 'Hive', he wouldn't respond and that's ok. I called him a b!tch and didn't need to. He overracted by banning me though. I apologize either way, I think he's ok and does a good job on keeping out trolls from v2, and I'd like my account on v2 back.

Show some love for @Jcarter, I mean it. I actually got along with the guy while posting there. I don't really consider myself part of the 'Soapbox' gang. I have a purpose and meaning with what I do online, unlike many of the pee and poo posters. I always said I wish there was a more 'serious' general board than the Soapbox to post on on IMDb.

Yeah, your ban is a big mystery…

Re: John banned me from v2 for no reason.

I didn't say that when you banned me. So why the hell am I banned? But thanks for clearing up that you first temp. banned me because of ebonydarkness. You had no reason to then either, I quoted her from a thread she made on IMDb, or on her own words.
And yea I'm allowed to call ebd out on her sh_t here, I (and other people) do the same thing on the 'Hive'. http://thesoapbox.freeforums.net/thread/9922/calling-eboshy-out-on-bs Maybe you should ban her for making disparaging comments on Chinese people or other Asians like me.

Who the fuck cares about that? The only reason every superhero movie followed The Avengers' path was because of how successful the movie was. The Dark Knight is still a much better movie… and, even then, it's not like tentpole movies in general didn't become more serious and darker in tone after The Dark Knight. Really they started doing it after Batman Begins, but they didn't start in earnest until after The Dark Knight.

Dude, if you want to actually argue with me about this, you're going to actually need to list all of The Avengers' merits and compare them to The Dark Knight's. I've done so with you countless times, now it's your turn.

Actually, they were doing before "Batman Begins." Every comic book movie leading up "Begins" was a bleaker retelling of the source material. Honestly, Nolan's films were just playing along with what was already a trend.

What merits? It's a pretentious work that thinks it's deeper than it actually is. Hell, colden himself doesn't even like it.
At least "The Avengers" had accepted what it is and rolled with it.

Clearly you only think that because you'd rather superhero movies not take themselves seriously… even if they have serious themes and ideas.

So? I like Colden and all, but him not liking a movie doesn't mean it's not good.

And what it was was a bland movie that didn't take its stakes seriously. Just a bunch of bright colors and explosions and quippy dialogue that's meant to distract people for a couple hours.

Not that it needed to be like The Dark Knight, but it could've been better written.

Yes, they were. The "X-Men" comics were always fun. The films are dour affairs by comparison. Hell, all of the characters are dourer versions of themselves, especially Rogue.

Serious themes and ideas "The Dark Knight" couldn't pull off even half as well as it thought it could. Hell, some of them shouldn't even have been in the film.

Just saying that I'm not the only person not overly impressed with Dark Knight.

It was a bland movie, in your opinion. Yet, over half a decade down the line, people still love it. Heck, I never even see anyone talk about The Dark Knight anymore.
No, The Avengers was an action movie and it was treated as an action movie by it's creators. And really, you're going to condemn it for quippy dialogue? I guess you also hated "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon." Oh, bright colors? You mean, like the comics that spawned it?

The Dark Knight needed to be better written. Oh, boo-hoo, Marvel Studios focused on making The Avengers fun, entertaining thrill ride instead of trying to make it deep. Big whoop.

We're not comparing the movies and the comic books. We're talking about the tone of the comic book movie itself. Yes, by comparison to their comic book counterparts, the X-Men movies were "dour". Doesn't mean the movies were dour, they just took their subject matter seriously. They still had plenty of humorous or light-hearted moments.
Serious themes and ideas "The Dark Knight" couldn't pull off even half as well as it thought it could. Hell, some of them shouldn't even have been in the film.

Ok, not a lot of people weren't impressed with movies like The Godfather or Unforgiven or Raiders of the Lost Ark, doesn't mean they aren't great movies.
It was a bland movie, in your opinion. Yet, over half a decade down the line, people still love it. Heck, I never even see anyone talk about The Dark Knight anymore.
Lol people still talk about The Dark Knight. Not as much as The Avengers movies, yeah, but that's because the Dark Knight trilogy ended six years ago, whereas the Avengers series is still going. Doesn't help that there's a new Batman, though I'm sure people would rather the Bale Batman be in the DCEU.
I guess you also hated "Die Hard" and "Lethal Weapon."
Die Hard didn't have quippy dialogue. It had comedic moments and characters, and John McClane liked to crack wise, but 90% of the dialogue wasn't just characters trying to out-quip each other.

And I wasn't that big of a fan of Lethal Weapon. The second one was pretty good, but the first one wasn't as good as people make it out to be… AND I'LL GO OUT AND FIND ANOTHER PERSON WHO SHARES MY OPINION BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT DETERMINES WHETHER OR NOT A MOVIE IS GOOD!!!
Oh, bright colors? You mean, like the comics that spawned it?
I'm knocking it for the bright colors because that's all you need to have in a movie to get people to like it. People would rather watch a movie with a mosaic of bright colors as opposed to a movie with a more muted color palette.
Oh, boo-hoo, Marvel Studios focused on making The Avengers fun, entertaining thrill ride instead of trying to make it deep.
It wasn't even a thrill ride. It was just watching some character beat up on a faceless army of aliens trying to destroy some blue beam of light shooting into the sky.

The films were dour, and worse yet, dull. Oh, please, these films did not take their subject matter seriously. Hell, they barely touched on the civil rights allegory X-Men is supposed to be about. The whole thing devolved into Xavier vs. Magento. Hell, it took them all the way 'til "Days of Future Past" in 2014 before they featured the government being repressive against mutants.

Well, for one thing, using The Joker in your little allegory for the War on Terror doesn't really work. He's just an anarchist madman, more akin to the likes of The Unibomber than anything we were currently dealing with in 2008.
He's not a religious fanatic, he's a nihilist. If they really wanted to make a Batman story that was representative of the Post-9/11 world and have a terrorist organization tormenting Gotham, there are far better villains in his rogue's gallery for that, like Brother Blood and H.I.V.E.
And the whole invasion of privacy thing they had going on with Batman and Lucious Fox using cellphones as a means to scoop places out was unnecessary and should have ended up on the cutting room floor. For one thing, Batman SHOULD have stopped Lau at the airport instead of spending half-hour of precious screentime plotting to adopt him from his home in China. Secondly, Gordon could have just as easily called Batman about the boats that stopped on the river.
