Deception : Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Forgive me if there's already a post with the same theme/topic or if someone has already mentioned what I have here. (If there is, someone please direct me to it.) I just wanted to share some things I noticed especially after re-watching many of the episodes and catching things I hadn't noticed from before. Feel Free to share yours.
Here are some of mine:

-In episode one, after Joanna and Julian first greet each other and Robert is giving his speech about Vivian, he says "Do you have any idea how many times I read Guess How Much I love you?" and almost immediately, Julian and Joanna glance at each other. I never really made anything of it until Episode 09 (Good Luck With Your Death) when Robert recited the Shakespearean sonnet (which was indicative of love) and their eyes met again.
When they looked at each other in the pilot episode, it seemed like a shy, and hesitant glance between them (which makes sense) but at Robert's anniversary dinner, their stares were so intense. I've been having fun connecting the oldest episodes with the earlier ones.

-Another scene I enjoyed occurred in the Stay With Me episode(08) when Julian drops Joanna off at the Bowers' home and they have a flashback. The song playing in the background was absolutely fitting IMO, for the way that Julian, throughout the entire series, had viewed Joanna (Joanna was still holding back, which is why I say Julian, and not both of them). The song is called Angels by The XX. I'm not gonna post the lyrics, but check the song out, it's sweet.

I have many others (some of which I have previously noted in other posts), but it would be cool to see what other people have noticed after going back and watching also. I might add more. :)

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Here are some of my "eye catching moments or "special" Jolian moments:

I have a lot of special moments, but I will start with these!!!

1. Julian cooking dinner for Joanna- I especially liked this moment between them because Julian took the time to wine and dine Joanna. He purchased a variety of foods because he wasnt sure what he wanted to prepare for her and wanted to have choices. I think Joanna was impressed. I also liked this moment because it was a moment of admission for Julian. He told Joanna what really happened and he was open and honest with her even though he was hurt by her accusations. He could see something happening between the two of them and wanted Joanna to prepare a dinner for himself. This was the moment Joanna realized Julian didnt kill his sister and he had a alibi to prove it. You could tell that Joanna was hurt by her own actions of suspecting Julian.

2. Trip to the Bahamas- I loved this moment between them because it was an unexpected trip for Joanna and Julian made sure her needs were taken care of. He purchased her a wardrobe because he knew she did not have time to pack. He picked out her clothes himself which shows me how in tune he is to her and this man pays attention to details. I loved the hand holding on the beach, I loved the way he tenderly took care of her when she cut her foot. Even though Joanna turned down or broke the kiss between them, Julian handled himself like the gentleman he is. I loved how he helped her out of the helicopter and as they were walking to to the Limo they began holding hands and Julian politely opened the Limo door for her. This man treats her like a Princess.

3. Sophia and Robert Anniversary Dinner- I loved the looks, the stare that Joanna and Julian were giving each other as Robert read that poem. I loved the moment when Julian walked up to Joanna and her mom. That conversation between Julian and Joanna was priceless. I loved when Julian suspected tension between Joanna and Audrey and Joanna told Julian that Audrey told her she had her opportunity with him but missed it. Julian says.. "you mean you didnt tell her that you bludgeoned me with rejection"? Than Julian showed his beautiful smile and told Joanna he would tell Audrey she wasnt interested! This was the moment of confession and admission for Joanna. She finally told Julian the truth. She was interested as we all knew from the beginning. This all led to the "Im in to the Edge of Doom", to these two spending the night together and the afterglow between them that next morning was simply beautiful.

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Ooh, fun thread! I have a lot, and I too picked up on things after 2nd, 3rd, and OK 4th (smile) viewings.

-When Robert is trying to convince Edward to come to the clambake, he says bring Samantha and the girls, followed by Edwards Samanthas barely talking to me, and his quick response is well, bring the girls then. Its so hilarious to me b/c Edward is reacting to the absurdity of holding the event and Robert tells him to just cut his wife out of it. Like thatll convince him.

-Another Eddie/Robert favorite is when the board is trying to push Edward out, and he starts spilling all the dirt on several of them. The look of pride on Roberts face was priceless, and Edwards look to Robert as he was leaving was probably the earliest foreshadowing for Edward turning into his father.

-This may be cruel, but I loved HOW Will found out about J/J. It was great and couldnt have happened to a more deserving person. He emotionally blackmailed her into going undercover, then gets mad when he realizes Julian has taken to her, and then gets pissy when he realizes their history. Their entire reconnection was orchestrated by him.

-The secret knock is so sweet. Im a total sucker for nuances like this. That little detail was just as informative as a flashback imo.

-The conversation b/t Joanna and Audrey. It was a territorial scene without being over the top. I loved that Julian didnt even acknowledge Audrey in the scene and instead explained to Jo that he was answering a move on with your life call. Audrey was invisible.

-"Wow, your mom still hates me" coupled with a sheepish look. lol

I also loved the juxtaposition of Audrey/Julian and Joanna/Julian. Julian hooks up with Audrey and when Ed calls them cozy, he sarcastically asks if thats what it means after only two weeks. With him and Joanna, its clearly only a couple of days later and shes his girlfriend.

Just a few =)

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Wow Cranberri, I liked all the one's you chosen also. I too enjoyed that scene at Julian's condo when Audrey walks in and says "Hey babe". Your right, I dont think Julian ever acknowledged her. He answered the phone told Joanna about the call and left Audrey standing there with bagels in her hand as she confronts Joanna. It was indeed teritorial

I also loved the scene on the docks between Julian and Joanna. It was very telling of how after all those years, Julian missed saying good bye to her and it was clear to me that he was still so into her.

I think I liked all of Edward's scenes. I liked all of Joanna and Mia scenes as well.. even when Mia was calling Joanna "House guest". I like Gabe too, even though he turned out to be a dirty cop!!!

The scene with Sophia and Wyatt in the grocery store throwing food at each was hilarious. I have enjoyed Sophia and Edward's one liners all season. This is why we need a Season 2!

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

If the show returns, Wyatt will be a fun addition. He so bluntly said how he wants to shred Sophia's lifeloved it. The only thing is that he took Mia. That wasn't cool, but it's the best way to get at Sophia quickly.

I wonder if that means a S2 would have to pick up right at that point?

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

Most times Cranberri the new season picks up where the last one ends. Some drama shows do the time travel like Scandal started with 6 months later.

I would like to see Deception start right where it left off. I dont think Wyatt will hurt Mia. He wants to get back at Sophia and knows the only way to do that is to get to the person that she adores the most and thats Mia.

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

I hope he doesn't take her off the property and is just trying to spook her. I don't know if I'd want a "where's Mia? arc.

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

I hope so too. I got a feeling its just to spook her and send a message to Sophia.

Oh I loved that too. Bet you he was thinking 'like father like son'. They have an interesting relationship that I hopefully wish to see more of.

I like all the things you mentioned too.

I also forgot to add in my post, I enjoyed the few scenes we got between Edward and Joanna. I always wondered why he seemed so hesitant and accusatory of her. Could she have done something during childhood that he didn't like? During their little adventurous trap shooting, we learned that they did have an interaction of sort back in the day. Kinda wish their relationship was explored just a tad bit. We know that Julian was Joanna's first love, and we know Vivian was her best friend, so what was Edward, other than her driving teacher?

Interesting thing to add, he was the first to know about J&J and hinted of that in the pilot.

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

If Edward is supposed to be in his early-mid 40s, then he was probably in and out of the house during Joanna's time there.

Re: Favorite moments, noticings, scenes etc.

I appreciated the scene where Julian was trying to assure Joanna that he had no knowledge or involvement in the coverup of the Lyritrol trials (now we know as fake). He seemed to think she would automatically believe he was involved, but his reaction when she said 'I believe you' was cute. He was a bit stunned, but relieved. At that point we could see how much he valued what she thought of him. One of the redeeming Julian scenes. I also liked how sensitive and quick to action he was when Beverly had her mental breakdown. I'm interested seeing more of that side of Julian.

I also liked the scenes between Mia and Joanna. I loved how their friendship/relationship evolved from the pilot. At first it was Joanna just trying to get info, and then she came to genuinely care for her. I always felt their relationship kinda foreshadowed the friendship Joanna had/could've had with Vivian. Joanna clearly hasn't overcome her guilt for tattling on young Vivian.

And one of my favorites is Robert and Sophia in 1x05. Sophia is trying drink her sorrow away after the Mia tabloid, and Robert just pluckers her up to get her to go to the Lyritrol event. I just like how Robert wasn't going to take no for answer and had no patience for Sophia's tears. I like their relationship even though they're both jackasses lol.

If there's several things I noticed, it's a few scenes during the finale:

-I do believe more people know about Julian and Joanna despite Joanna trying to keep it a secret. I was a little confused Joanna tried to get Julian sneak out of the window, even though he was smooching her up and parading her around at Will's celebration. Did she think no one saw? lol

-At the party, I noticed that when Julian introduces Joanna as his girlfriend to Will, you can see Sophia not far in the background. She seems to be looking directly at them when Julian places the bracelet on her wrist and kisses her hand.

-And right before that, you can see Robert watching Julian holding Joanna's hand as he led her to meet Will. I swear both of them know. How does Audrey, Nicole, Mia, Edward and Beverly pick up on it, and they don't? There's no way Beverly was the only one who saw Julian coming out of Joanna's room.

I also think Julian sensed the tension between Will and Joanna. I'm still debating whether I think he saw Joanna sitting in the passenger seat of Will's car. hmm.gif

I also just realized that Robert had initially sought out Will before he settled for Gabe. I wonder what would've happened had Will been approached first?
