Deception : Did the quality improve as the season went along?

Did the quality improve as the season went along?

I watched the pilot, I watched the second episode, it was an intriguing premise but I really couldn't take the acting, the show seemed too clunky and cheesy and I never watched beyond those two episodes. I know the season finale aired earlier this week, did the show get better as the episodes went along.

Because like I said, I did like the premise and I did think it had a lot of potential and I have been wondering if I gave up on this show too soon. Thoughts?

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

Yes, it did. You missed a good show.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

I felt the same way in the beginning but I decided to give it another chance and I'm glad I did. It really got better especially episodes 7 thru 11. My only hope is that with a new season, they tighten up on the writing just a little but otherwise than that, the show is great and has the potential to be even better.

And let me know if you fall in love with Edward (Tate Donovan) because he has the best lines in the show. And last but not least, by the end I hope you root for Team Julian - Lol!!

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

I DVR'd Monday's show, that was a season finale?

What is going on with Broadcast TV?

Weeks of repeats, shows starting late (Smash, Body of Proof)

In the case of Smash, they start it late by 4 or 5 months, do a 2 hr premiere and then shut it down for 3 weeks, and they wonder why the ratings are down on this show?

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

Deception was a mid-season replacement with the potential of being renewed for next season. It was likely placed in the Revolution time slot so they could catch up on production of that show. The same goes for other shows on other networks but with the case of Smash and Body of Proof, those shows needed retooling in an effort to save them. It seems to be working for Body but Smash is still struggling in the ratings and the critics are saying it's likely to be cancelled.

In my opinion, "Smash" could come on everyday for six months straight and ratings would continue to go nowhere until they decide to actually "fix" the show. Even for fluff, the show is so ridiculous and implausible, you really have to only be interested in watching people sing, dance, and change costumes - and nothing else that comes out of their mouths - to get any entertainment value at all. So once they actually make the show worth watching, then perhaps I'll get upset over the ratings.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

Yes, the show got better as the season went along. Also phasing away from Meagan Good and focusing more on the family. We forgot Good is supposed to be the star of the show in the latter episodes, that made the show better IMO

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

The Smash FB page is a real eye-opener. People are so upset about what's going on there. Not only that, they are moving it to Saturdays which cannot mean anything good. I thought about checking it out b/c I saw they've brought on people like Jesse L. Martin and Bernadette Peters as guests, but it seems like the show is only frustrating their loyal viewers.

Cranberri, I thought Smash was cancelled. Are you a member of Tumblr? it was a nice right up by Wes Brown complimenting Meagan Good and talking about how much he enjoys working with her and hopefully will do so again in Season 2. Wes is a sweet heart.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

Yes, he is a sweetheart, CeCe. I read it this morning. That isso sweet, that's why you need season 2.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

There hasn't been an announcement, but most people are taking the Saturday move as the death knell.

I am a member of Tumblr, but I'm still trying to figure out how to use it. lol. I did see his comments though.

Yes, the show did get better. I wish you had stuck around but if they get a new season then you can give it another try.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

The show got worse before it got better. Imho the last two or three episodes have improved alot in terms of writing regarding dialogs.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

If there's any instinct everyone should carry is to never judge a show by the first few episodes. It works both ways in whether it'd get better or worse. At the same time, it's a gamble not everyone has time for, which is understandable.

Deception is one of those shows that got better after a few. I too found the pilot week and forgettable. But man am I glad I stayed in.

I echo others when I say that the show is worth checking out on Hulu, Amazon, Itunes, or NBC. There was a marked improvement in everything. The pilot had that feel of "how should we establish these characters?" I think 4 or 5 episodes in was when everything started settling in and flowing.

Re: Did the quality improve as the season went along?

I agree. Around the 5th episode was when things started to really kick in. What I like was how they did the slow burn with Julian and Joanna. Even though we saw the chemistry from the very first episode and we also saw how Julian was so into her from the time she walked back into the Bowers mansion..the writers took their time with them. It wasnt rushed. They didnt actually get together until the 9th episode but the entire season these two were slowly simmering. By the 11th and final episode they were on full blast. Loved that!
