Seven Samurai : Remakes/copycats?

Are there any good remakes/copycats/other similar films? I've seen Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins and thought it was awesome (a man gathers a group of samurai to take down some leader type who is a dick (sorry, it's been a while) and they turn a town into a fortress for an epic showdown, complete with a kikuchiyo-styled goofball). There is also the Samurai 7 anime, which basically takes the plot of Seven Samurai and adds mecha. Anything else worth watching?

Re: Remakes/copycats?

Well, there is the obvious Western from 1960, but not sure if that is your cup of tea.

Of course, there have been off-shoots done as comedies and animated features - THE THREE AMIGOS, A BUG'S LIFE and GALAXY QUEST (entertainers mistaken as warriors hired to defend those in dire need). This GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, I am not familiar with it at all, but in looking at the trailers, I could not help to notice that it might have a similar premise (six warriors hired to defend against evil, injustice, etc. One could also have said the same thing about THE AVENGERS).

Re: Remakes/copycats?

Now that you mention it, the avengers and seven samurai do have a lot in common…opening sequence immediately establishes the threat, then they have to figure out what to do, and eventually gather warriors. Then the movies end with an invasion that the small group has to fight off.

The most recent episode of The Walking Dead is also a similar storyline. Rick and his group help Jesus' group fight off a gang of thugs who regularly take supplies (food and medicine) and in return promise not to attack/kill them.

The original '13 Assassins' (1962)"> Personally I prefer the remake, but the original is still very good.

Earth without art would just be 'eh'.

Zack Snyder Draws a Seven Samurai Comparison to Justice League

It may not be a copycat or a remake, but clearly Zack Snyder is drawing inspiration from Kurosawa's movie. I actually thought the first AVENGERS movie was close in spirit.

Its an intense, awesome, and gigantic undertaking because Bruce [Wayne] is having to go out and sort of Seven Samurai the Justice League together, which is fun Its slightly monumental, and at the same time theyre starting to grapple with this coming threat.">

What about Home Alone?
