Magnificent Obsession : DVD RELEASE
Re: DVD RELEASE
There is an all-region (supposedly) version from one of Amazon's associates. However, it is not an "official" studio release and is not remastered, so the quality is not great, but is acceptable for the pleasure of having a DVD copy.
Re: DVD RELEASE
A Douglas Sirk box set is due for release in January 2007 and is available for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk, Magnificent Obsession, All That Heaven Allows and Imitation of Life are included in the set.
Re: DVD RELEASE
Even if this is true, I am not interested in the european version (PAL?). I wonder why do they do not release it in U.S. Would be GREAT !!!!

GREAT NEWS!!!!
It's been released as part of the Region 2 Universal Cinema Classics series of DVDs along with most of Preston Sturges' comedies, other Douglas Sirk movies (previously available only in the previously mentioned boxset) and other various Universal films already released including films noirs (The Glass Key, The Big Steal etc.), All Quiet On the Western Front and Going My Way!

Fantastic! Now these movies can be transferred from region 2 to any region and still have the same clarity of a dvd!

You must be referring to the edition I saw which I borrowed from a library.
I usually like to have the subtitles on so I can 'read' what the characters are saying. But the subtitles on this edition were so wrong they were laughable. (So, yes, if you want a laugh, turn on the subtitles and see what the translator got paid to write). I think whoever got the job doing the translating was probably (1) very hard of hearing or (2) English was not their first language. Or both.
Some people have no shame in putting their hands up for a job when they know they can't do it. Lucky for me that the audio on this copy was clear to enable us to hear and understand what the characters were saying.
