Bad Day at Black Rock : Check out this crazy review

Check out this crazy review

Inaccurate, and offensive as well:

The comments are hilarious. If you think this review is as obnoxious as I do, and have an Amazon account, you can vote to delete it and if it gets enough votes it's gone. It's an embarassment.

On the other hand, it's also pretty amusing.

What ever happened to the time when directors realized that taking risks is a bad thing?

Re: Check out this crazy review

I only skimmed it. I tend to be impatient with reviews that have factual errors and was put off quickly when the writer said the movie included Ann Margaret (rather than Anne Francis.) A shame there is no way Amazon can screen for these type of gaffes. But you are right, the following comments were pretty lame, too.

Re: Check out this crazy review

I got as far as the second par, and decided two factual errors already ("Anne Margaret" and Cinerama?) meant this person's opinions (and typing) were worthless

Re: Check out this crazy review

That was pretty funny. I felt a bit how Joe Gillis did when he sat down to read Norma Desmond's "Salome" script: "Sometimes, it's interesting to see just how bad 'bad writing' can be. This promised to go the limit."

Not only for the off-the-rails "analysis" (I never read homoeroticism into the Tracy-Marvin hotel room scene), but for the many factual errors as well (mistaking Anne Francis for Ann-Margret, CinemaScope for Cinerama and Tracy bundled up in a robe for Tracy wrapped in a towel).

Oddly, he hit upon one point which, although I don't think it was intended by the film makers as a larger commentary, was somewhat perceptive:

"...tight control of media (telecommunications) and law enforcement by powerful business interests"

Although it involved only Hastings bringing Macreedy's wire to Smith rather than sending it to the state police, and Smith's bossing of Tim, you could say it presents the issues he cites in microcosm. But as they say, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Of course, he's entitled to his opinions, and I'm not inclined to do anything to get his review deleted, if for no other reason than readers may recognize the name and save themselves time on his other writings.

Poe! You are...avenged!

Re: Check out this crazy review

Nuts! The review is gone so I didn't get a chance to vote to have it deleted, as I am sure I would have, having just read these few posts here. Well, it is nice to know the system works sometimes.
