Daisy Ridley : Am I the ONLY one who thought Star Wars was made worse because of her?

Seriously, what is the matter with the world? If I wanted to watch this abysmal a job of acting, I'd go back to watching the original Power Rangers. Everyone I speak to says "oh no, I actually really like Rey"are you kidding me!? Every second she was on screen I was cringing a little, and not the "funny like in The Office" cringing, the "oh my god, this person cannot act, who was responsible for casting" kind of cringing. I had a hard enough time liking this new Star Wars, she just made it THAT much harder for me.

Yes, I think you may just be the only one, (or at least among a v.small %age of ppl). Honestly, I don't think you and I watched the same movie. Of all the things to like, love, dislike, or hate in this movie, in my view Daisy Ridley's performance was one of the real stand-out positives. Both her and John Boyega had great chemistry between them, and I'd seriously give her performance nothing less than a 10/10.

I'm sure as hell no fanboy of these movies, and I don't give 10/10's lightly. That's why I have no other way to express my opinion other than to say I don't think we watched the same movie. But then people are like that; there can be all kinds of subtle variables that influence a person's perception. Personally, I've always seen Clive Owen as a terrible performer, but everyone else seems to love him. I don't know why. Some people think Al Pacino or Daniel Day-Lewis are bad

Well everyone has an opinion that's life. I can love one thing and another person can hate it. I personally think she was good but come on people you can't make someone the new queen Hollywood till she does more movies she carries and I see those Oscar nominations coming in.

Film is art, in art there is taste. Some have it, some don't. Those who don't, are way more easily amusedwhich I guess is the up side.

If not the only one, then one of an extremely tiny group. What bothers you, that she stayed dressed throughout the film, that she didn't get into any sxy dumps? She did her part wonderfully, voicing, intonation, facial expressions, body language etc. Aside from having watched a good number of movies & stage plays in over 60 years, I've done acting & I've directed stage plays, there is a decent chance I may just know what I'm saying. She's a cute girl, did her job just fine, in fact likely the best of the entire crew, with all due respect to Carrie Fischer who did quite good in the limited part she had.

Sounds more like you're the one who reads what they want to read. You only pay attention to the part where you think she's calling you sexist (even though she doesn't use that word) and then disregard the rest of her argument that has some very valid opinions. She says that she has many years of experience with acting and has seen many actors and Daisy still did a fine job when compared with them. I'm more inclined to respect her opinion over yours considering all you can do in the face of a counter-argument is start an argumentum ad hominem smear campaign to discredit her. It seems more like your trying to convince other people not to like this young actress just because you don't like her, then it is about the quality of acting. I don't know why Daisy irritates you so much, does she remind you of someone you hate? don't try to persuade other people to dislike something you don't like with this half-asses attempt at manipulation. I thought she was just wonderful. She had the look, the emotion, the physical prowess, she had it all. Rey was one of several fantastic new characters brought into the story in 'The Force Awakens', and I've no doubt she will carry the weight of the story for the next three films. I think Ridley is up to the challenge, and I can't wait to see the next film. She's amazing.

Most of the praises people give Rey is that she had a good presence, smile, emotions etcits exactly her problem. She has a captivating presence, but ruins it when she speaks or tries to act. I guess people are easily pleased

You're probably not the only one but I disagree. Not the greatest performance ever but there has been worse. Even in Star Wars films there have been worse. She was better than Natalie Portman, for example.
