The Thrill of It All : I would like to know…..

I would like to know…..

Where can you find a contractor who can construct a working pool overnight? Can he mak the cement harden sufficiently in a matter of hours? Enough to tolerate tons of water pressure? And landscape it so nice? And get approval from the city? Maybe Samantha Stevens helped out? *Her neighbor, Mrs. Kravitz can be seen in the carjam sequence sitting next to the shoestring seller).

I would also like to know how anyone, even in the early sixties, could tolerate a character who would sabotoge his wife's career to keep her barefoot and pregnant. Kinda scarier that Freddy Kruger, but cuter. NOT a nice ending for a sexist comedy.

Well said. And of course you're referring to the handsome and suave character played by James Garner.

It's sad to think women put up with men like that (and much worse) in the sixties. Heck they still put up with them (and much worse) today.

Except in the history of popular movies their role seems to have changed. The sexist guy in the sixties was accepted as a hero. Today the sexist guy is often portrayed as the villain.

Despite its ending which shows its age - where the heroine chooses 'home duties' over a great paying career (seemingly to keep her husband happy over her own happiness) I still enjoyed this movie.

Re: I would like to know…..

Re: the pool, it's called suspension of disbelief.

Re: I would like to know…..

Amen! Where's the imagination of people today?
