The Sword in the Stone : Why was Mim cut?

Why was Mim cut?

I just watched the scene with Madam Mim on DVD and noticed they've cut some of her dialogue. When Arthur falls down the chimney as a bird and sneezes, Mim, seated at a table and playing cards, says "sounds like someone's sick, how lovely" then she should've said "I do hope it's serious, something dreadful" but instead the scene cuts to another piece of dialogue. Can anyone tell me the reason why this cut was made? if it's because of the possibility of upsetting younger viewers, then I find it unbelievable they did this, particularly as the scene progresses we see Mim and Merlin have a huge fight and turn in to several different animals and creatures trying to hurt and destroy each other! The mind boggles.

Re: Why was Mim cut?

Do you know what they do to your ear if they don't like your face in Agraba? The kids watching Aladdin today don't know.

Re: Why was Mim cut?

They changed that because it's inaccurate. They don't actually do that.

Re: Why was Mim cut?

Carpets do not fly either, nor do genies come out of a bottle... but they kept that in the movie... And by the way, Agraba doesn't even exist, so we do not know if they cut off your ear if they don't like your nose there...

Re: Why was Mim cut?

Do you have the R2 version? The line is intact in the R1 version. Maybe it was cut by the British Board or EU or whoever uses R2.

Re: Why was Mim cut?

i never noticed t i am from uk love this movie

Re: Why was Mim cut?

cutepiku, Agraba is a fictional city. They'll do whatever the author of the story says they'll do there. Still, I will concede that in a time at which very little was known of Arab countries in the media, even portraying fictional Arabs in a fictional country could be damaging to one's perception of them. I'll be honest, when I first saw the film at age seven, I thought there could actually be a place like that somewhere in the world.

Nice name, Mim

..very french. Lots of Disney characters have better sounding names in french versions. E.g Huwey Dewey and forgotwhat become Loulou, Riri etc. And Magica De Spell is Miss Tick in french Ducktales. Glormgold is Flairsou.

I've noticed so many people have so many different types of "witty" signatures

Re: Why was Mim cut?

as long as they didn't cut the "well, i'm afraid i'll have to destroy you." line, i'm ahppy.

Re: Why was Mim cut?

i found this on wikipedia

The R2 DVD release has a scene trimmed by the BBFC involving Mad Madame Mim's first encounter with Wart. In the current version she says, "Sounds like someone's sick, how lovely!" In the uncut version she continues, "I do hope it's serious, something dreadful!"

Re: Why was Mim cut?
