General Hospital : I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
There are only two that I know of - soaps.sheknows and soapcentral.com. Both of them have GH forums. But I will miss imdb forums too. They included all movie and tv shows whereas those two sites I mentioned are only about soap operas.
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Soaps she knows is a new one to me, so thank you for the recommendation. I actually have an account on soap central, but to be completely honest I'm not a huge fan of some of the posters over there. They have some of the same hang ups I mentioned in my original post.
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
I'm going to miss coming here also.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
For years, coming here to share in the bitching and fandom was the highlight of actually watching the show. Oh well, I never thought GH would outlive the IMDB message board.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
They want us to use their Twitter and Facebook pages because then you lose anonymity. Trolling is the direct result of anonymity, so just like YouTube, IMDB has concluded that the only way to eliminate trolling is to eliminate anonymity.
We better get used to it, Internet anonymity will soon be a thing of the past, not just at IMDB, but everywhere.

On Facebook I use my real name and information because it's a good way for me to stay in touch with family and friends. However, I don't use my real name on Twitter nor do I post anything about myself. I basically use Twitter as a second message board. I hope to see some of you IMDber's come over to twitter once these boards are gone.
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
I have never posted on Twitter, and I rarely go on Facebook. But if I don't, I will miss a lot info about this show. First the LocateTV web page went down, now this one. So I will take a look at Twitter

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Trolling isn't the reason- $ is. By putting interactions elsewhere they are offloading the hosting costs of these huge boards.
Trolling actually result in more posts and that means they can charge more for ads, but the costs of hosting have just risen steeply the last few years. I'd be shocked if a petition w a few 1000 will save it.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Lots of webpages have comment sections that go through Facebook. This is, in fact, becoming the norm. The benefit of Facebook comments is that Facebook forbids anonymity, and thus reduces the potential for trolling.
In the last 3 years, I have seen more than half a dozen webpages that I frequent switch to Facebook comments. They do it because it makes moderating comment sections easier and reduces the potential for trolling.
What is happening is that anonymity on the Internet is rapidly disappearing. We are moving towards the day when a person will have only one account on the Internet which we will be forced to use to access every other site on the Internet. Maintaining separate identities online, being known by one name or one website and another name at another website, are coming to an end. Soon, everyone will be allowed only one identity, which will be your real name, possibly even with a picture of your real face, and you will use this one identity everywhere you go. People will be able to click on your name, and see every comment you have made anywhere on the Internet. So, if someone has a secret double life, where on one site they pretend to be moralistic and righteous, and on another they indulge in child porn, this will be no longer be possible, because everyone will be able to trace everyone else's Internet comment history.
As for me, I not only do not use the same screenname everywhere I go on the Internet, but I actually create a different screenname for every site I visit. At my peak, I had nearly a dozen different screennames and identities all over the web. Now, as more and more websites switch to Facebook comments, my identities are becoming merged, I'm now down to only three different screennames at three different sites, including IMDB.
I don't like it at allbut the change is inevitable I suppose, and as anonymity disappears, my willingness to post potentially controversial comments on the Internet diminishes.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
I'm not denying this is not a secondary or tertiary reason, but $ and offloading costs is behind it. But, I think IMDB is gonna find that they made a mistake. 95% of the people who use IMDB do so to comment on films and TV, and 95% of their revenue does NOT come from mere looking up of info and the ads it generates.
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Why don't you make a second, fake Facebook that you use for your online accounts that are forcing you to use Facebook? Like fake name, fake location, profile picture is a flower or something? That's what I would do instead of giving up my anonymity. I used to have a fake one to send myself FarmVille gifts lol
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Because Facebook doesn't allow that, once they discover the account is fake, it will be shut down.
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
BULLSH!T !!!!!!!!
Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
There's nothing wrong with having only one identity. If one is true to themselves then they have no problem standing behind what they post. If we all used our own names and only one account then my posts would be the same. I don't now offer anything personal due to the trolls of very public sites.
People could use daydreams for fake lives if they need that. The troll issue though is a problem. They aren't any consequences and some have multiple accounts. I've seen a few over the years just repeat breaking the rules and gloat about having those red letters and not worrying about them. The few that were deleted just returned with another, though often similar, username. The ip addresses were never banned.
I was part of other message boards before joining IMDB in 2004. I left in 2007 when the trolling was bad and not worth it. I then belonged to other sites but returned to IMDB in 2012 because it was convenient to have so much all on one website. My username is different because I didn't remember my password and no longer had the disposable email address that I used for it. So much was already taken, even "Already Taken" so it's obvious all the usernames they've been through.
People, most, behave better when their real identity is known. It's about accountability over the game playing. I'm fine with using real identities if everyone does so it lessens, if not eliminates, the games and such.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
Yes, trolling is negative publicity and adds to an unprofessional reputation. It's easy to find complaints online. One man complained that his movie was just released and only in a limited area but some were giving it negative ratings and reviews who couldn't possibly have even seen it. Their response was because they could. All publicity isn't really good publicity. It wouldn't be an issue if we all would moderate ourselves.
The board was great at times and I've enjoyed interacting with most of you.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
These boards = the place I would get all my info on spoilers and comings & goings as I don't really frequent other soap boards. Might check out FB when these are gone but sure will miss everyone here.

Re: I'm Gonna Miss This Board
All I care about with IMDb is being able to post my reviews. But if this is the beginning of some sort of censorship, it really is rotten. Blame it not only on the government but the safety pinned snowflakes who have turned the world into their own little playdough playground.

I'm Gonna Miss This Board
I like going on Twitter, but there is only so much talk of Jasam and Julexis being so "hot and sexy" that I can take. I rather see an unbiased legitimate conversation about how their relationships are actually going. I also like all the talk about the history of GH and daytime TV. If anyone has any suggestions for other boards like IMDb to use I would be happy to hear about them.
