General Hospital : Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Agreed. Jelly haven't a clue as to how to write mystery and whodunit storylines. The hospital killer and "who killed Tom?" are terrible. Vomit inducing, really. I watched roughly 10 minutes of the episode today and hated it so I turned the channel.
Sad.
Sad.
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
From Peter Harrell to this sad tale, the last few years have been filled with gimmicky and idiotic tales. There's just no defending such an ill conceived and executed story.
I think the Peter Harrell and the Tom Baker stories, although both pretty bad, were flawed in different ways. Harrell really didn't make any sense and the reveals seemed to come out of nowhere. There was very little discussed as to why any of this was happening aside from 30 year old revenge and greed. It was just silly, and with a terrible actor with a horrendous accent stuck right in the middle, plus so much Maxie just made it all the worse.
Then you have Baker which was set-up to be a better story about Liz. OK, that didn't happen. I figured then we would get a predictable story where Franco kills Tom in defense of Liz, maybe they go on the run, he stands trial, is redeemed and they fall in love. All by the book. That didn't happen either. Instead it was bits and pieces of those ideas but now about Franco's need for redemption by torturing someone he thinks is worse than him, then getting framed for a murder by a character who has had 4 scenes in as many months. It's a mess.
Varni, who I can only assume was joking, said that the stories are written out months ahead. Then why does everything always feel inchoate and random with no planned payoff? Seriously, I don't understand how they can be so sloppy with their storytelling. Other stories might have issues (Nelle, Valentin) but at least they move and keep you interested these are just disasters.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
I agree with this.
I also think the writers were trying to go meta by having RH play a character dealing with rape and its consequences because they cd never do tht w Todd Manning.
It failed.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Speaking of obvious, this story is obviously heading down the "Sam forgives Franco for not raping her" road.
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Or for not raping her as she gives birth.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Well, they did say that Sam would be doing a story that had never been done before on soaps
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
I took that to mean a rational story with a cohesive through-line.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
So we are getting new writers?
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
I also assumed it was untrue hype.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Who is Peter Harrell?
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
The killer from the Aztec Treasure SL who turned up 30 years later for two epis to be killed. He was the father to Maxi's faux Aussie BF.
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
I agree about Seth. I thought he might have killed Tom last week watching the show. And maybe it won't be a rivalry, but missplaced loyalty, and the truth smacking him in the face that Tom hadn't changed at all. Or it could be Seth was the bad seed all along as you theorize.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
We'll see. I have a feeling they may be using Seth as a decoy and be bringing in a totally out of left field resolution, as well.
And I don't care either way, the story is so NOT compelling.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
They could have made this story really compelling. Liz dealing with her rapist out of prison. Tom (as perhaps a longer term character) seeking redemption, or revenge. I mentioned earlier, there was no point to have him come out of prison only to be killed a week later.
As Cosmo said, death of storytelling. Which is what they are paid to do.
I'm sorry I don't speak computer-ebonics, please type in English.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Yup.
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
During the Seth/Liz scene I was thinking Seth is covering for his and Tom's mother, whom I could swear was watching from upstairs. Mom murdered Tom, Seth put Franco in storage

But I thought she was confined. To a rocking chair, in the basement.

Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Yeah the whole thing was very Norman Bates lol
Re: Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
Given how bad the writers are it's no wonder.
Seth B and the Death of Storytelling
It was so obvious, and it is so predictable. Liz's rape has now morphed into Franco's redemption cum the sibling rivalry of characters we know nothing of.
Did Seth do it because Tom used to beat him at basketball as a kid? Who cares?

As much as I hate the talk shows and The Chew, if this is the future of GH, kill it, NOW!
