Re: Special News Report
There is a reason it is called 'the daily press briefing', this happens literally every work day at this time. I assume that the only reason they running this is because it is the first daily press briefing of the new administration and thus they think it constitutes 'news'.
It is annoying because there doesn't seem to any actual 'news' here, they seem to be running it only because it is the first and is therefore somewhat 'historic'.

Re: Special News Report
so should we start expecting this everyday then. that is just a waste of dvr space as well as airtime
Re: Special News Report

Re: Special News Report
In my area, it was on both stations, but the special news report is over now.
Re: Special News Report
Apparently, there was a press conference on Saturday that turned out to be extremely combative, apparently, ABC showed it because they were hoping that it would be some kind of meltdown as if Spicer was going to pull an Ed Dwyer or something, Stephenopholous seemed almost disappointed when he said 'this looks like a press briefing that could be held by any administration.'
Re: Special News Report
Stephenopholous was hoping for a walk out like Saturday. That's probably why ABC n NBC were wanting to air it not caring about viewers who want their daily programming.
Re: Special News Report
Another example of the media wanting to create the news rather than reporting it.
Re: Special News Report
Trump is the new Obama.
Re: Special News Report
In terms of being an attention whore who craves the spotlight, and gets angry when people don't adore him, absolutely. The difference is, Trump has been in the public eye for 30 years, so everyone knew that was how he was before he was elected.

Well I have heard that orange is the new black.

I have to admit that I have no idea what the expression ____ is the new black means.

It's a tv show about a woman's prison on Netflix.
That's all I got.
What do we want?
Time travel!
When do we want it?
It's irrelevant!
Re: Special News Report
Yes, I know. But the title is based on a popular saying "____ is the new black" where the blank could be filled by nearly anything, e.g. getting shot in the head is the new black.
What on Earth does 'the new black' mean?
What on Earth does 'the new black' mean?
Re: Special News Report
Black has always been a popular color in fashion, so whenever some other color becomes trendy, people will refer to it as "the new black" (Brown is the new black or trendy color.) When the saying is applied to something other than color, it means that item is trendy or popular now.
Orange is the New Black plays on that because the women are wearing orange prison suits almost as if it's a trend.

Re: Special News Report
I am familiar with the Netflix series, starring Donna Pinciotti and Captain Janeway. By the way, Donna looks better with red hair, she looks like a damn idiot as a blonde or brunette.
But thank you for explaining that expression to me, it has been bugging me for years that I didn't know what it meant.
Do you know what the expression 'you're not seeing the forest for the trees' means? That one has confused me for years.

Great song from a great Huey Lewis album!
In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
Re: Special News Report
If you suddenly put on a raincoat, I am getting the hell out of here.

Re: Special News Report
You're welcome. I don't watch OITNB but I agree she looks better as a red head. Brunette isn't bad on her, but blonde is jarring.
That one means you are so consumed by the details (the trees) that you are missing the big picture (the forest).

Re: Special News Report
I've also heard people say it the other way around, that you're so obsessed with seeing the big picture that you can't see the details. I'm not sure any two people use the expression in the same way.
Re: Special News Report
Well, the analogy is that the trees make up the forest & the details make up the problem/situation. trees:details::forest:big picture
The reverse would be "so focused on the forest you don't see the trees" or some more eloquent delivery, lol. But, yes, I've heard people misuse it.

LOL. I'm watching 1988 episodes of the investigation of Frisco's death, and Charlene just said this to Felicia. It IS a very Charlene thing to say as well as a dedoc thing to say, apparently.
I am a nerd, so any time I am reading and someone says a word at the same time I read it or I hear an unusual phrase and then I come across it repeatedly for a few days, well, I get a little kick out of it.
Re: Special News Report
Heeheehee I think it's the visual that I enjoy. Not surprisingly, I'm a huge lover.
It is funny how once your attention is drawn to an unusual word or turn of phrase you suddenly see it everywhere. It's not really popping up any more frequently of course, it's just that it's now in the forefront of your mind and you see/hear what before would have been white noise. I think it's a distant cousin to the yawn phenomenon.

Ha! Absolutely.
Re: Special News Report
Black isn't a color. It absorbs all other colors.
Re: Special News Report
Black is a color. By the same logic, you could say that white isn't a color because it is what is leftover after you filter out all the color from the spectrum. White is literally the absence of color.
Re: Special News Report
Your "argument" just debunked itself. Yes as you say, white isn't a color either, just like black. Thanks for making my point.

Re: Special News Report
Scientifically, black is no color and white is all colors, but they are colloquially considered colors since they do register perception in the optic system.
It's akin to listing atheism or agnosticism as 'religion' in a census box. Technically, it's no religion, but the absence of it constitutes your religious belief, or lack.

Yes indeed.
An intellectual carrot , the mind boggles
Re: Special News Report
You mean Budd? Jesus why did I watch that!
Re: Special News Report
Yes, Budd Dwyer
Re: Special News Report
I literally haven't seen the show for like 3 weeks because of all the pre-emptions in the last 3 weeks. No idea if I should bother trying to watch the episodes that actually aired or if I should just delete them all and try to pick up tomorrow.
Re: Special News Report
Omigod it was interrupted again today??
Re: Special News Report
I hate it when they do that lol didn't they do that about three times this month?
Re: Special News Report
I'd watch Thursday's episode for sure. There were good developments for Julian, Anna, and Valentin, and a lesser amount but still some events for Lulu, Sam and Liz (I think that was the Sam/Liz talk), and Maxie/Nathan's wedding wrapped up. Some of that may have happened o Tuesday. I forget. ;)
