"Poor John" - Ada Jones

This vocalist was popular in the 1900s/1910s. She was the first major female recording star....not the first to record, but easily the first to become popular. I think she deserves to be remembered.

Re: Last Song/Music To Which You Listened &/or Recommendations?

Some of the songs I listened to today included:
"No Matter How I Try" - Gilbert O'Sullivan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdX-_CbJBlo
1970s pop hit.

"What's My Scene" - Hoodoo Gurus
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzFKYHvkhVQ
1980s hit. Australian chart positions:
New South Wales - #3
Victoria - #1
Queensland - #3
South Australia - #6
Western Australia - #4
Tasmania - #5

"P&B" - Agnetha Faltskog
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKzLTTL0x8g
1980s movie theme. Judging from what I've seen on YouTube, the people who like Agnetha Faltskog really like Agnetha Faltskog.

"Cara Mia" - David Whitfield
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aSA9ThDhdE
Huge hit in Britain in 1954. The kind of music that rock'n'roll killed off.

"The Happy Wanderer" - Obernkirchen Children's Choir
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2VFxQB4qgg
I can't believe this became a top 10 hit in Britain in 1954.

"Friends and Neighbours" - Billy Cotton and His Band
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxeygIeLnYM
Another 1954 hit.

"Star Light Zone" - Masato Nakamura
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mqmN6mw4R8
Video game music from 1991. Very popular among early 1990s gamers.

"Eve of Destruction" - Barry McGuire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdARD9Qi8w0
I did not know this was ever performed on TV! Was surprised to find this TV clip on YouTube.

"Earth Song" - Michael Jackson
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAi3VTSdTxU
It's a nice song, but geez, what an awful music video.

"We Didn't Start the Fire" - Billy Joel
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFTLKWw542g
I hope someone does a new song with all the events since 1989.

"It's a Big Wide Wonderful World" - Joan Regan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqkI3ulLwFE
Happy mid-century song for happy people.

"Gippsland March" - New York Military Band (released 1914)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGpPplHUAg4

Composed by Alex F. Lithgow, who was born in Scotland, then moved to New Zealand, and then moved to Australia (Gippsland is located in Victoria, Australia).

New York Military Band was actually from New Jersey!! They were purely a studio group, assembled by the record label for the purpose of making records. They never gave concerts for the public. In a sense they could be considered an early manufactured group.

Re: Last Song/Music To Which You Listened &/or Recommendations?

That sounds fascinating. I can't see the link at work (blocked) but I'm going to look at it at home. I've never heard of this. Do know where Gippsland is (note, Gippsland is actually an area of Victoria, not a town or city) and is one of the few areas of Victoria that I never lived when I was a child (moved around quite a bit).
