The Sound of Music : Weren't the actors who played the children releasing a book?

Weren't the actors who played the children releasing a book?

I remember seeing them on some talk show a few years ago (Oprah maybe?)and they said the book would be out the next year. Was that scrapped?

Re: Weren't the actors who played the children releasing a book?

No, the book has been out for several years. It's called The Sound of Music Family Scrapbook.

Thanks a lot

Re: Weren't the actors who played the children releasing a book?

Apparently Heather Menzies and Angela Cartwright were going to write a book (weren't they going to sue Julie Andrews or something like that), this was around 2003 I don't know what happened about the book.

Re: Weren't the actors who played the children releasing a book?

Nobody was going to sue Julie Andrews. But all the "kids" on the movie have made a cottage industry of having been in it. What more would they have to say about it? They were all children and not in the inner circle, even Charmian Carr had her role spoon fed to her by the dialogue coach.

When Charmian Carr wrote "Forever Liesl" and did interviews around 2000, that's when she hyped up her crush on Christopher Plummer and she took potshots at Julie Andrews. She said Andrews didn't "go to Salzberg to make friends." and generally insinuated she was cold. It turned out Andrews hadn't participated in Charmian's book, or responded to Charmian's request to participate, and that pissed Carr off. She was all "Well, maybe she doesn't want to be associated with the role anymore!" She reserved her annoyance for Andrews, even though it was obvious Christopher Plummer had nothing to do with Charmian's book either. Everything on him in the book was public domain or someone else's story about him.

Then in later editions Andrews did a very nice blurb for the book, and Carr changed her tune, getting weepy about how wonderful and nice Andrews had been to her, and she's been like that ever since.

Anyhow, I guess very few of the kids went on to have successful show business careers. The one who did the best was the girl who played Luisa. So this is a way to earn some money, travel, and have a little name for themselves. Sometimes I think if the kids weren't still showing up constantly for anniversaries, Plummer and Andrews would bail out, but they don't want to reject these old people who are still earning a living off bit parts they had in fifty year old film.
