The Sound of Music : Why did the children start crying at the dinner table?

Why did the children start crying at the dinner table?

Watching the sing along version on ABC right now, and it's the first time I've watched it in forever. Maybe I'm being dense, but why did the children start crying at the dinner table at the beginning?

AVADA KEDAVRA!!!

Re: Why did the children start crying at the dinner table?

This is an old show when people and children's conscious was portrayed to be shown in individuals. Like in Casablanca when he sent the woman he loved back to her husband.
Supposedly Maria was piercing their conscious. Kids these days could careless how they're making you feel.

Sad but true, it's sad many of today's young parents don't teach courtesy and respect for your elders anymore.

Re: Why did the children start crying at the dinner table?

The children were made to feel bad by Maria, she played a guilt trip on them.
They cried because Maria appealed to their consciences.

I disliked this scene it seemed over the top, almost cartoonish.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Re: Why did the children start crying at the dinner table?

I always thought they were fake crying because the whole scene is odd to me.

Just to see how Maria would react.
