Re: Favorite song?

Climb Every Mountain

Re: Favorite song?

Climb Every Mountain because of what a powerful song it is, but I also love Do Re Mi... I learned that song in school before I even knew that it was FROM a musical!

How sad, that you were not born in my time, nor I, in yours.

Re: Favorite song?

Do re me (is that the actual name?)
It is a brilliant song. It teaches you notes and how to sing. Who wrote it?

I did sixty in five minutes once...

Re: Favorite song?

Do Re Mi.

I also don't believe that there's a bad song in the whole movie.

Re: Favorite song?

My favorite song from The Sound of Music is Climb Every Mountain, because it's such a powerful song and delivers such a powerful message; believe in yourself, follow your dreams, no matter what obstacles stand in the way, and persevere.

Re: Favorite song?

So long, farewell

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

Re: Favorite song?

Edelweiss

Really they're all lovely, but other faves:
Do Re Mi (always have to sing along!)
So Long, Farewell
The Lonely Goatherder (catchy)
The Sound of Music, for those first glorious notes!

Re: Favorite song?

I can't pick just one!

"The Sound of Music" warms my heart every time I hear it. It gets stuck in my head but it's okay because it's lovely
"Favorite Things"- sing along every time. Good life lesson too
"Edelweiss"- made me teary eyed a few times. Love when the whole family sings it together

I like using spoilers :) :) :)

Re: Favorite song?

The Lonely Gothard

Re: Favorite song?

'Climb Every Mountain.'

Re: Favorite song?

The Lonely Goatherd is the best, but all of the songs are great. There are not many films where every song is great. Mary Poppins in another.

I am the Duke of IMDb bio writers! I am A#1!

Re: Favorite song?

The song when they did their home theatre. Sorry I don't know the name and too lazy to look it up .

Re: Favorite song?

Edelweiss. When I was a kid I didn't like it at all, but, as I got older it all connected with me somehow.

The Sound of Music

Earth without art is just "eh."

Re: Favorite song?

Do-Re-Me

Re: Favorite song?

Do Re Me

Re: Favorite song?

Eidelweiss. I also really like the acappella version of The Sound of Music that the children sing to the Baroness. I agree with Julie Andrews that the version on the hillside sounds wildly high now, but that was the period. I love the harmonies in the quieter version.

I have always hated Climb Every Mountain until Lady Gaga sang it at the Oscars. It's just loud and shrill in the movie, and it was loud and shrill in the "Sound of Music - Live!" production. Lady Gaga brought out more melody.

Worst song by miles is "I Have Confidence". Lonely Goatherd is a strange song, but it's fun. The staging of Do Ri Me is incredible in the movie.

Re: Favorite song?

Edelweiss will always have a special resonance, because apparently it was the last song Oscar Hammerstein wrote (He'd already been diagnosed w/cancer when he & Rodgers started work on TSOM), making it all the more poignant. Now I'm faklempt...

My favorite songs were cut from the movie

One of the reasons I was so disappointed with the movie, when I was taken to see it, as a child, was that my two favorite songs from the score (which I'd grown up on, with the original Broadway cast album) were nowhere to be found in the movie. Those songs were "How Can Love Survive" and "No Way To Stop It." Also cut from the score was the lovely "An Ordinary Couple," which was replaced by the rather inane "Something Good." They also added in the unnecessary and kind of awful "Confidence in Me." When I finally got to see the full show, as originally written and performed (a version that almost never gets performed these days), I realized that there were so many unfortunate changes made for the movie. I can still appreciate so much about the movie, but it's a terrible shame it is so much less than it could have been.

Just make a movie that makes me care, one way or another. I'm open.
