Alphaville : 'Naked Lunch' influence?

'Naked Lunch' influence?

I'm curious that nobody has brought this up on the board before or maybe it was too obvious for some, but if anybody who was confused about the film if you look William S. Burroughs novel or check out David Cronenberg's adaptation of "Naked Lunch" would answer a lot of questions or at least the origins of the story. I remember one scene that made an indirect reference to the novel when the lady (I apologize for forgetting her name) picking up a novel in the hotel room titled "Naked Truth" and other such similarities as the 50's Noir/beatnik settings, the interrogation scenes, and the mention of "inter-galaxy" a la "inter-zone" and seems Goddard slipped some of his political views of France at the time.

Re: 'Naked Lunch' influence?

Yes, I agree with you... The reference to different "zones" and especially the "North" neighborhoods, with the snow, reminded me of "Annexia" in Naked Lunch... I also thought of NL with the escape of the couple in the end with a woman that *might* be human... But of course, as many already previously said, I mostly thought of Blade Runner when I saw Alphaville...
