Microsoft Paid $650 to Dodge Lawsuit Over Forced Win 10 "Upgrade"

Microsoft just dodged another lawsuit over Windows 10 forced upgrades.

The latest victim was an Alzheimer’s patient - I'm sure Microsoft would have looked very bad in court.

The desktop was originally built 10 years ago. It mimics Windows XP because that is the operating system the grandfather used before receiving the Alzheimer’s diagnosis and retiring from work. Since then, the computer became part of his grandfather’s daily ritual, and when Windows 10 creeped in and changed everything, the upgrade caused “distress” within the household.

Microsoft hasn’t issued a statement on this, but it’s no wonder the company agreed to pay damages to the man, especially because it all comes down to just $650. A lawsuit would have cost a lot more than that, that’s for sure, especially because there were big chances for the company to lose it.

That's chump change to Microsoft. Still, this could prompt a nice big bunch of small claims lawsuits, and maybe even a class action lawsuit. The latter is probably assured with the current state of ambulance chasers.

The last I read, Microsoft is facing two lawsuits, one in Florida and one in Israel, and both suits are seeking class-action status.

And the New York Attorney General is also pursuing a case against Microsoft:
